Paédor Elf

Created by Zylvanness & CrazyJack
The tribal Paédor Elves (Vara'Fal, old tongue) reside in the murky forests and swamps of Mirkireth in western Tal'rond, and have done so since their migration from their island homeland in 2A. 756. The Paédor descend from the first Fallon to leave Fallanor in the age of origin, who found the now lost series of islands, whose names have also been forgotten. Sometime before 2A. 756 a cataclysmic event forced the Paédor from these islands, the great Paédor migration, until they reached the shores of Mirkireth, where the hazardous swamps and jungles were well suited to their hardy nature. The Paédor most commonly live in treehouse settlements which dot the dangerous Mirkireth region. The Paédor race is currently formed from ten different Clans, all of whom control different territory in Mirkireth, each of these clans have their own sub-cultures, traditions and laws.

Characteristics and Appearance

Paédor Elves are shorter than their High Elf cousins, and are darker skinned, with darker hair, Paédor hair is never blonde or silver, unless dyed, red hair is uncommon, and they are most commonly black or brown haired with dark and sometimes cat-like eyes. Paédor Elves also have a similar build to humans, rather than the thinner and more elegant build of the High Elves, they are hardier, which is well suited to their often harsh living conditions. Tattooing and body paint are also prudent in Paédor culture, so many Paédor also use these as a means for decoration. Paédor attire varies from clan to clan, and the tribal nature of the race means that the more 'savage' of the clans, often wear little more than a loincloth, whereas the more easternized will wear human-like clothes and leather armour, more often than not in colours ranging from green to brown. Paédor also commonly adorn their bodies with a multitude of decoration, such as feathers, necklaces, bracelets and other jewellery made of anything from talons to plants and flowers to teeth.

Skills and Expertise

Paédor culture above anything else, is a warrior culture, and strong, quick and skilled fighters are valued by society. It is for this reason that Paédor are adept at almost all forms of warfare, however are more practiced at fighting in enclosed small groups, they are especially deadly ambushers. The Paédor are also considered the best archers of any race in the world. Weapons preferred by Paédor warriors are bows and short swords, as well as small axes and spears, this can vary from clan to clan. Paédor armour again varies depending on the clan, some prefer to fight without it, for extra speed and agility, whereas others favour mainly light leather armours. The Paédor are also efficient as healers and herbalists, due to the many dangerous plants and herbs that live in their environment, however, very few Paédor show any normal magical ability outside of this. Paédor do practice blood magic, however, and are one of the few races to do so. The Paédor are talented blood mages, and prefer this type of magic to any other, such as normal elemental magic. Due to their jungle environment, Paédor are gifted hunters and trackers and are also the best in world at cultivating some of the mysterious species unique to their homeland, Mirkireth. Finally, Paédor are skilled in the art of pathfinding and stealth, and they are said to have better eyesight than even the High Elves.
