High Elf

The Children of Ade'ryn

Written by Zylvanness

The majestic High Elves (or Arta'fal, "Exalted of Falnor" in Old Speech) hail from the Kingdom of Laedin and are children of the Creator Ade'ryn, born from the sap of the Great Tree. They were the first Fallon to reach the shores of Malynor and populate the region of Laedin. From here the beginnings of man and dwarf set forth to Rondor. For over 4,000 years the High Elves have lived and migrated from Eron'del, their capital city.
The High Elves of Eron'del symbolise the everlasting beauty handed down to them by the will of Ade'ryn, who cared most for everlasting beauty. For a time they were the race of peace and tranquility until in the 2nd Age and 3rd Ages, corruption and war caused them to become one of the most distrusted and destructive Kingdoms in Malynor. In the past 1,500 years the High Elves have once again strived to be peaceful however, turning a blind eye to their warring history. Since, they have become a race that is looked upon for wisdom, and sometimes magic, in dire times of need by other kingdoms.
The Elven city of Laédin is Eron’del, it is situated amongst the forests, waterfalls and rivers, ponds and lakes near the Maiden River. Their architecture is often white marble or beech wood with wooden furniture. Beech is preferred due to its brightness and strength, in likeness to the Great Tree Eala. Elven art and architecture features elegant designs with curves and techniques to blend and merge with the environment around them. Trees are often found growing inside the centre of buildings, sometimes even a clean stream of running, fresh water. The air is always clean, filtered by the evergreen trees surrounding Eron’del and the sun usually glistens down upon the last lush green leaf grown upon a tree. Birds sing their song and the area feels calm and everlasting. During the night the land is transformed into a twilight haven with glistening, mirror-like waters, the rivers even become a lot calmer because of the nightly pull from the moon, said to be a blessing from Era.

Skills and Weapons

Expertise

Elves are most commonly known for being excellent rangers, healers and enchanters. As hunters they only hunt down what they need to survive. The Elves then befriend many of the predators, such as wild cats or on rare occasions elementals. As healers the Elves are very intelligent and know how to cure many poisons, wounds and other oddities. Elves that know about any kind of magic are commonly enchanters of weapons and armour, or can cast their power into the wildlife around them. Rarely do elves become anything akin to sorcerers, the evil kind of Wizard that delves into the arts of destruction, although they are also master spellswords, and will not hesitate to use destructive spells in times of conflict.

Call to Arms

The weapons the Elves prefer to use include the bow and arrow, longsword or short sword and shield. High Elves are second to none at crafting armour and weapons for ease of use and maximum, precise effect, however they do not match the toughness and sheer power of the Dwarven armour and weapons. Many weapons or armour that are named and hold magical properties often originate from Elven forges. The works of the Elves are often attractive and elaborate and very mighty, typically crafted from Mythril and decorated with silver. Archers typically use longbows with extreme force, even the arrow heads are engraved with elegant design. The longswords are typically steel with occasional golden hilts and woven grips, interlaced. Some regiments of the Elven military use double sided swords. The shields that Elves use are heavily decorated to match their armour with the occasional opal or lapis lazuli. Many consist of the shape of flat top and angled down to a smooth point at the bottom, but some are extremely long to protect the full length of the body.
High Elf Generic Female

Anatomy

High Elves are always tall and sylphlike, with skin that is known to shine under starlight.

Senses

The expeditions of the elves are feared by their enemies because of their exceptional senses of sight, hearing and touch. They can see as far as a hawk, hear over valleys and feel the mounts of their enemies through the ground beneath their feet - almost as far as they can see them.

Small Families

It is rare for High Elves to have more than one child, if any, because their longevity is crucially weakened after passing most of their life essence to their children. Queen Gwyniel Tinwétár was revered for her overwhelming purity after giving birth to her third child. Even after, she continued to live for much longer than expected.
