Reading Challenge 2021 in Talitha Harbor | World Anvil

Reading Challenge 2021

I am game for this challenge. I like seeing other people's creative works and I am hoping that I'll also get some cool design ideas for my own site. Right now I'm not sure exactly how I want to put it together.
In no particular order, a list of World Ember articles that I found interesting:
    * The Magi's Curse by Gilly-May Hartill.
  I really like the layout of this article. Hartill has dates, a symptom list that pops out, and a bit of history. It's thought out and well put together. They also have a further reading list to the side, which is something I might try to incorporate at some point.     *Forest Roads by George Sanders.   This article on dirt roads takes something mundane and adds a bit of magic. Sanders also has some poetry and a nice page layout to go with the article. I had not thought of using snips of prose in my information articles, but it is a good idea. It breaks up the page nicely and adds a bit of culture.     * Ozax's Radio by Ezra Aldrich.   Aldrich has taken a technological item, which has a built purpose, and enhanced it with magic. There is a nice description of the object that is well done. There is also a hidden ability that the character who owns the item doesn't know about. To add to the mystery Aldrich had put it behind a button that the reader can choose to open or not. I have no magic in my world, but the article does show a good example of description, which I probably need to add more in my own.     * Through the Green Glass Door by Sodose   I found a Solarpunk style world, so of course I had to check it out. The specific article linked ins an intro to their world, to include the Meta and their purpose for making it. I haven't looked at my Meta since I started, so I probably should make sure it's at least presentable. Their presentation is very nice and includes some fantastic artwork by Yuumei Art.     * Junior Sprout by LexiCon (WordiGirl)   A great article for anyone who likes secret organizations or mystery. It shows how LexiCon's secret organization recruits their youngest members. It has a good balance of information and mystery, telling you enough to make you feel like you are learning something. But, also leaving a few questions behind for the reader to wonder about.     * Regalia of the Kings of the Duiniken by Kveldulfr83   A detailed article about artifacts that are kept by their kings, safe guarded, and used in ceremony. The author details each item and then explains how they are used. The article has a lot of information and obviously has had a lot of thought put into it. There are dates included, whether or not deep history is even known, and effects of the world with the objects and ceremony over time. It is a good example of well thought out world building.   *Prickly Sparks by Amélie I. S. Debruyne   I am always here for a good article about an insect and Amélie has provided. She had a well thought article that specifies how her Prickly Sparks interact with both people and magic. She adds an extra touch by putting little quotes in the article from a person who's decided to interact with the sparks and use them to their advantage. It's a nice little addition that adds a bit of fun to your reading experience.   *It Happened One Evening by Dazzlinkat   A choose your own adventure story with both choices and dice rolls, what more could you want? It is a fun adventure that starts out in a tavern, as any good RPG would ;) It is a neat and unique way to create interaction with your world. I am definitely going to keep this idea in the back of my head for future use.   * Luciano Sunseeker by Heather Strickler   The story of a vampire who is ten thousand years old and powerful. It's not just another poweful vampire, but also one who misses the sun. He is trapped with a condition that he didn't even want. I like this character building because they have flaws, awesome and powerful, but not perfect. It also feels real, after not being able to see the sun for so long, you probably would miss it a little. Especially if you started out as a human.   * Charity the Razoredge by Belphegirl   This one was a great random find for me. I have a long love for a manga that's a twist on Heaven/Hell and religious lore. Belphegirl's world is also a twist on that topic, though in a very different way. This article covers one of the characters, an angel who has also spent some of his time in hell. He seems to be a creature of his own making, an angel, but one who is going to do as he pleases. Unlike my own characters, this article give history, but is more to the point. You learn enough about Charity to get a feel for him, but there is a lot left unsaid. You must read more about Belphegirl's world to fill in the gaps. It can be a good way to pull readers in verse just giving them everything in a single article.

My 2022 Resolutions:
  I definintly want to build out this site a lot more. I need to link and edit the articles that I have written and could write so many more. Some more specific things:   I want to draw/create images for:
  • The calendar system (currently in the middle of)
  • City of Anunitum Fortress
  • The map for The Great Cities (I have a rough sketch already)
  • plus lots of little fun bits here and there, but actually drawn by me verse my current mix of wombo, artflow.ai, and canva.
  • Writing: Other than the site, I am writing novels that take place in Talitha I am hoping to:
  • Finish rough draft for WIP2 (which will actually be book 1)
  • Go through at least three edits, maybe beta readers
  • Go through a few edits of WIP 2
  • Draft the plot for WIP 3 since it ties into 1 and 2

    Thanks for featuring one of my articles! Glad you enjoyed reading it. Your complete list is pretty interesting as well. I'll be sure to read a bit of the others you have linked. Praying much success with your goals and commitments for this year! <3
