Camarilla

A global conspiracy working towards keeping vampires and other supernatural creatures a secret, working off the narrative that the supernatural and occult is mere myth and fiction. A narrative known amongst the Kindred as the Masquerade.
The sect has historically considered all vampires as being under its rule, save perhaps the Sabbat. Though in the 21st century - as a result of the Anarch Conflict - they have taken a more selective approach. In recent decades the sect views itself as the vampire elite. The select few who will outlive the Second Inquisition and vampires unworthy of the Blood alike.

History

As a response to the Spanish Inquisition,

often reffered to as "the First Inquisition" in modern nights. A group of elders joined in the town of Thorns, England. As the fires of the Inquisition raged, threatening to burn vampires til extinction. These elders formed the beginnings of the Camarilla and its Six Traditions. Believing that existing under a strict law of secrecy was the only way forward.

Throughout the centuries

the Camarilla asserted control wherever they could. "Princes" ruling cities, with "Primogen" as their advisors on clan and city matters, and the Sheriff whom upheld the Six Traditions and local law; and other smaller roles for more specialized problems. The Camarilla was bent on governing vampires all across the world. In their words: an effort to protect the Kindred from the mortal herd they once viewed as nothing but cattle. Though in the Anarchs' words: a pyramid scheme meant to keep the old and powerful in places of power. So they may grow even older, even more powerful.

In these modern nights

the Camarilla has become withdrawn from immortal society. As the Second Inquisition burns entire cities' Kindred populations to ash. The Camarilla courts that remain have become even more select in who they allow membership, and crack down even harder on breaches in the Masquerade. Though they have always been known for being fanatical in upholding the Masquerade. With the Second Inquisition watching, they do not tolerate threats to their safety.

Structure

Inner Circle

This is the absolute top of the Camarilla pyramid scheme. No one except the Justicars and the Inner Circle members themselves know who are amongst these elite elders. Rumour has it not even the Justicars actually knows, their minds wiped of any knowledge whenever they do meet with their masters.

Justicars and Archons

Amongst the Camarilla there are seven officially accepted clans, and for each there is a Justicar. A Justicar is to the Camarilla as a whole, what a Sheriff is to a city. The Justicar are the Inner Circle's elite enforcers. The mere rumour that one is coming to a city sends the local Camarilla court into a frenzy to make everything seem as squeacky clean and perfect as possible.
The Archons are their deputies. Though they may not seem to hold the same level of fear or esteem as their masters. An Archon is nonetheless given the same respect. As they are entrusted with the same authority the Justicars have, acting on their behalf.

Princes and Seneschals

The Camarilla ruler of a city, and their right-hand Kindred. A Prince is as much a title of rulership as it is a management position. A Prince is a Camarilla Kindred whom has "Praxis" - the right to rule - over an entire city. Or equivilant domain. Seneschals are their - for a lack of a better term - assistant. They aid the local Prince in their duties, and will often act in their stead, with as much authority when the Prince isn't available (or just doesn't want to.)

The Primogen

This council of advisors can represent many things. Typically there is one per major clan in the city. Acting as representatives for their clan's interests. Though a Primogen can also in some circumstances come from smaller but valuable clans in the city, or even an outside clan: such as the Hecata, the Ministry; or even outside factions, like the Anarchs.

Sheriff and Hounds

The Sheriff is the local enforcer of the Six Traditions and other local laws deemed as important. The individuals given this title are more often than not capable of doing their duties on their own; though a charismatic leader with a network of coteries whom can together do what a single capable Sheriff can do, or even better, isn't out of the ordinary either.
Hounds are the Sheriffs' deputies. Whether the Sheriff requires expertise they don't have, or simply wants to increase the efficiency of their work with additional enforcers. A Hound as at the very least the Sheriff's ear when it comes to matters of law-breaking. Few dare to challenge a Hound's threats of tattling to their Sheriff, save for the more entrenched elite, whom can "out-clout" a Hound's accusations.

Scourge

Where the Sheriff is sent to enforce the Six Traditions. The Scourge is sent to remove a problem, permanently. They are a Prince's personal killers. Sent to deal with those targeted by Blood Hunts and other trouble makers. Many Camarilla domains give their Scourges a free license to kill any and all Caitiff and Thin-Bloods they come across.
