Drelev

A city-state to the north of Pitax and west of Hooktongue Slough. It was ruled by Hannis Drelev until his death. It consists of Fort Drelev, some neighboring districts, and nearby agricultural areas.

History

In 4710, Jamandi Aldori tasked Hannis Drelev with clearing out and settling the Glenebon Uplands, which he did with hired barbarians and other mercenaries. He was made Baron of the eponymous nation of Drelev and had a stone fort built on the west bank of Hooktongue. A shrine to Hanspur far predates the town of Drelev.   An impressive town filled in around Fort Drelev, with plenty of housing, lots of docks, and an extravagant Temple of Erastil. Wood walls and watch towers were built to defend from the land. Unfortunately, the presence of M'botuu prevented Drelev from expanding into Hooktongue Slough, leaving them overbuilt and with limited resources.   Struggling to expand, Hannis has been attempting to win the favor of neighboring Pitax by appeasing its leader, Castruccio Irovetti. Seeking to become a vassal, he severed trade deals with The Land of the Silver Star and accepted some Pitaxian soldiers into his town guard. He also began working with the Tiger Lords and gave them some higher-ranking citizens and nobility as tribute. Despite his efforts to impress Pitax and the Tiger Lords, the relationship is very one-sided, as neither are very invested in the relatively weak and poor city-state. It is thought they will abandon the area if Baron Drelev is removed from power.

The Road to Revolution

Augmented by Pitaxian soldiers and to the apathy of Baron Drelev, the town guard began to oppress their own citizens. Martial law and a curfew were instated. Town guards became so corrupt that even by day they would patrol the street and take what they wanted from the citizens. People began to stay indoors and keep to themselves as much as possible. The guards frequently occupy the local tavern, eating and drinking their fill without paying.   Many citizens became unhappy with the actions of the town guard and Hannis Drelev's foreign collaboration and overall leadership. Some moved out and others died of sickness. Those who spoke out were incarcerated, including the well-respected Terrion Numesti. The remaining citizens were on the edge of revolt, but lacked courage and leadership. Augmented by 6 Hill Giants from the north, the town guard was too formidable to challenge.   Seeking to prove himself to Pitax, Hannis committed most of his army to an attack on Vermetelheid, supplemented with troops from Pitax, the Tiger Lords, and some trolls. Anticipating this attack and seeing a potential future ally, Kisandra Numesti provided the town with advance warning, which allowed the army of Drelev to be decimated. This drew the attention of The Land of the Silver Star, who sent a small team to remove Baron Drelev from power.

Baron Drelev's Downfall

Kiin, Avarice Skjegge, The Rat, Ragnar Garess and Keraak entered Drelev disguised as fishermen. Intending to kill or capture Baron Drelev, his advisor, his wife and the town guard, they began to scout the town.   Disguised as guards, The Constellation got a feel for local establishments. They found the family-run tavern to be overflowing with messy, rowdy guards, and the smith to be making poor-quality equipment for Pitax. Ultimately they met Satinder Morne at The Velvet Corner, explained that Kisandra sent them, and exchanged information. Later that night they scouted out a secret tunnel leading into the basement of Fort Drelev, ultimately defeating some guards and rescuing Terrion Numesti.   With Terrion freed, The Constellation began their campaign of insurrection. While Terrion reassured people in the marketplace, they gave away food they had stolen from Fort Drelev. After scouting out the watchtower to the west, they attacked it by night, killing all 6 guards. The Rat scouted the fort, made contact with Imeckus Stroon and found him to have no allegiances to Baron Drelev. The following evening, The Constellation killed 16 drunk guards in Bellweather's and relocated the owner and her family.   After resting, The Constellation disguised themselves and headed towards the secret entrance to Fort Drelev. On the way they encountered guards harassing civilians and on the brink of violence. They returned it in kind, swiftly killing several guards. The guards attempted to surrender, but believing their safety would not be guaranteed, they attempted to flee and were killed. The Constellation continued into Fort Drelev, working their way up from the basement and killing any guards who wouldn't surrender. Ultimately they killed Quintessa Maray and Baron Drelev himself.   In the aftermath of Drelev's rule, some of his guards were allowed to disarm and flee, others refused to disarm and were killed, and a lucky pair fled with their weapons and escaped alive. All 6 of his Hill Giants fought to the death.

Terrion Numesti's leadership

Following Hannis Drelev's death, Kiin told Imeckus Stroon of her desire for Terrion Numesti to become lord of the city, which would eventually become a vassal of The Land of the Silver Star.
