The Second Wave
The second mass of Xenophage ships, space garbage and wreckage that entered the system from outside as well as the larger conflict. It would ultimately end the post golden age isolationist error and see the forced of humanity uniting to ultimately findvictory in the Battle of the Beijing Miracle.
The Conflict
Prelude
Before the second wave the factions of the solar system barely interacted. Often either suspicious or unaware of each other. Though contact between factions like the Celestial Connection and the Human Elevation Foundation had happened, trade was rare, and defensive spending and paranoia high. This would both act as a boon and a weakness, as military spending was up with larger professional navys, but far less unity and communication.
Outcome
Destruction of all colonies around Uranus. Heavy damage to Luna, the utter destruction of the UES capitol Beijing, the crippling of the UES's Naval capacity. Foundation and MDS retaining bases on Luna despite UES arguments.
Aftermath
This would end the isolationist period between the four interplanetary powers. The foundation would begin its process as the inner system superpower. The CC would also put more interest in the inner system, sending much of the remnant fleet to begin constructing a gate to reconnect the inner and outer system. The illusion of the United Earth's Sphere as a real super power in the system ended, as their aging fleet was vastly reduced and the lagging in tech made obvious. However the MDF and Foundation seizing large portions of the moon cooled any illusions that this would create an age of humanity united without any animosity.
However the earth remained largely habitable, only Beijing was infected before it's destruction and the infection spread no further. The combined efforts of all of humanity building a brief alliance and sacrificing much for their mother world has left a poetic counter argument to the fracturing of humanity.
Historical Significance
The second wave was discovered much slower than the first. Due to planetary alignment, the wave slipped past the Kuiper Belt unnoticed, and its first detection was a massacre. Uranus was a recent and small member of the CC and was neither prepared nor capable of defending the moons and stations in its orbit. Everything was stripped and no one would survive the first encounter.The Celestial Connection warned Earth immediately, sending panic through the aging fleet and forcing the United Earth's Sphere to come to terms with it's fate if it continued to ignore it's isolation. Knowing based on The First Wave what the swarm size might be, earth sent pleas for help to all the powers of the system, begging them to join in the saving of earth.
Much to the shock on earth First Admiral Ninmah Aris of the Martian Defense Front agreed under the demand that earth recognize their dominion over Mars and her Moons. This was an easy price to pay and the First Admiral herself would command the fleet to join Earths defense. This was likely to due with her needing to regain popularity and legitimacy as the daughter of the previous First Admiral and the universal hatred the MDF felt for the swarm.
The CC also agreed after much internal debate, spurred on by Titan's representatives demand for vengeance over the destruction on Uranus. However due to the distance between the outer and inner worlds, the Fleets of the CC would have to focus mostly on harassing and attacking the swarm from the rear. This fleet would be commanded by the [Titan Admiral Francisco Garza.
This immediately hopeful response was undercut as the Human Elevation Foundation, most advanced and most isolationist of the factions, informed earth that after much mathematical analysis it was determined that such a battle could not result in earths victory and so they would not send ships. This grave messages was hidden from many until after the battle, known only to the admiralty until after the battle.
Yet mere hours before the start of the battle a the Foundations Primus Fleet arrived to offer itself for the defense of earth claiming the Foundation had determined that a potential chance of success warned an investment in that success. Though the Foundations detachment was smaller than any other detachment the Primus fleet was its most advanced tactical group under the command of it's most meritious Admiral, the now famous Tomoe Harada. This was seen as the first miracle of this great battle.
Battle of the Beijing Miracle itself was a massively deadly affair mostly taking place over Luna . It was ship for ship the second largest battle in human history (Second only to the battle for Mars in The First Wave) and the largest in terms of purely military vehicles. It would scar Luna immensely and lead to the destruction of Beijing. However, the Xenophage failed to spread to the Afro-Eurasian continents and was fully stopped, achieving the first total victory of the war.
