Mars
The fourth planet in the solar system and last of the terrestrial planets, Mars is the second world to be terraformed and the heartland of the Martian Defense Front and home to [Martians.
Geography
The major cities on Mars sit at it's North and South poles, due to the immense industrial needs of the Magneto-Sphere Stabilizer that allows a life on the surface of the world despite its originally dead core. After the stabilizers completion, the heavy industry was population was already set as the industrial capitals of an otherwise primarily agrarian world. along the coast and down the rivers live vast quantity of farming, fishing, and light industry forming innumerable towns and small cities. Out in the desert many small towns and villages can be found, but many are abandoned as the threat of the Xenophage can still be found in the wastes to this day.

Fauna & Flora
As Mars is terraformed much of the planet has wildlife brought from earth and genetically modified to allow better survival chances on the lower gravitational world. Due to the vast empty ecological niches flora and Fauna are rapidly evolving and many species are already significantly different than their earth originals. However, the Xenophage has heavily damaged the ecology of the planet, having taken much to recover, yet still some populations can completely disappear due to a xenophage bloom. Thus the MDF have a whole military department focused on the protection and tracking of wildlife on Mars.
History
Mars saw the majority of research pursuits and focus by the western nations of the United Earth Sphere. Especially the United States which was deeply invested in it's colonization and terraformation. however despite early success all effort to terraform was complicated by the dead worlds other lack of a biosphere, thus leading to a reliance on dome cities and limited settlement.
However as eastern nations shifted focus to Venus, both the United States, the European Union, and India returned focused to Mars, hoping to use the incredible resources of space to build two massive mega-structures on the poles of the planet that would dig down using two Moholes, massive tunnels into the mantle, that used loosely understood applications of Gravity Engines to force the core back into movement. This required an incredible amount of local industry, leading to the two sites called N-Pole and S-Pole growing into massive industrial cities of which N-Pole remains the worlds unquestionable population and industry capitol.
With atmosphere imported via Venus, and repeated shelling by icy meteorites eventually lead to the now rich world. And though it would come to completion years after Venus became the second jewel of the solar system, mars would finally achieve it's reputation. However it would not be long after that this golden age would be sundered by the The First Wave.
Mars was on the flight path for the wave and was the UES's first major line of defense. The fight for Mars was immense and though Mars would eventually move out of the way of the Wave's path, much of the fighting was still happening. Despite that the Fleet and it's ground forces were instructed to abandon Mars and protect earth. Many did, but Vice Admiral Ajit Aris and their command, the bulk of the 3rd Solar Fleet and many other smaller groupings refused. Those that stayed called themselves the Martian Defense Front.
After the war much of mars was damaged, many infected. S-Pole was heavily devastated, and though N-Pole was spared thanks to being an ocean bound city, it was flooded by refugees from the ravaged interior. The MDF forces would make themselves the emergency government, suspending democracy to handle the emergency. However these powers were never returned, they were key in restoring some normalcy to the battle scarred planet.
Blame for the tragedy was put mostly on the shoulders of the UES for "abandoning" the colony. Fear of the infection and the intense presence of the wave on the planet meant both deep suspicion and a massive number of Infected children. This would lead to a lot of oppression and stigma towards those not "purely" Martian.
Mars economically recovered under the MDF, but has never had higher tension. The famous White Foxes have lead insurrections and gang violence, and the dictatorship in Phobos has been seen with more and more suspicion and fear by the working class population of Mars.
