Three Forks
Description
Located at the divergence point of a single mountain river into three forks, this town rests in the center of the Frostbarrow Coast, and serves as its hub and largest population center. Despite that, it isn't much to look at. The land surrounding the town is flat tundra, and the icy northern winds rips across it at great speeds.
The town is styled after the image in my mind of Yellowstone. There are no buildings in the town high than three of four floors. Everyting feels dirty, and in need of maintenance. But there is a rugged beauty that its insistance on surviving has brought. A percentage of the population live in town, particularly those who work the stores. However many of the town's local inhabitants have small pieces of land around the town, many of them attempting to eke out some kind of existance here growing hardy tubers, herding caribou, or searching the earth for minerals.
History
Three Forks was founded by a small group of successionists who refused to acknowledge the Saikar rule. They cross the Onyx Shield and set up a trading town here. An agreement was struck, where the Saikar allowed the successionist province stand, as long as the empire was give trade priority, because the land wasn't worth settling.
Locations
General Goods
The primary location of the town's supply, the general goods store carries most of what you would need for regular life, including food, medicine, and basic supplies. The shop is run by a friendly dwarven man named Dolthar Frostbranch (and yes, he knows Frost is in everything, his ancestors chose the name when they were released from slavery and came here). He is particularly friendly, and because of this, people often stay to chat. He may sell General Goods, but he offers his value to the town both as a ready ear, and a giver of sound advice. But he also knows when it's in his benefit to share a few spicy rumours.
The Onyx Anvil
The town's local blacksmith, and general handywork shop, the Onyx Anvil is run by a female Silver Dragonborn named Prida Belhym. She came here to start up this after struggling to make a living in Onyrra. She hated the zealotous individualism and backstabbing culture of the S.A.C and the abuses of the common person. So she picked up and came here. She crafts tools and hunting equiment primarily, with weapons and armour to be done to order.
The Raven's Toll
Set in the back corner of town, the Raven's Toll is a future reading, karma cleansing, and apothecary shop. It is run by a charismatic old tiefling of deep purple skin named Meilus Valmenos. Some people in the town swear by him, others swear he is a scammer (and they are correct, he actually has no ties to the Raven Queen, and makes most things up. The building
Hall of the Holy Hand
This building serves both as the office of government and the barracks for the local city watch. The organizations themselves pledge their loyalty to the deity Tyr, the god of Justice, and any who join are offered the chance to become a champion and follower of him, but it is not mandatory to do so. Within this building, there is a barracks, a large council hall, and a court room. In the Council hall, the elected members of the council hold meetings to make decisions for the town. Towering over the circular meeting area is a large stone statue of Tyr, his missing hand prominent. The members who sit on the council all do so alongside their regular life responsibilities. Their families often own farms or ranches or provide some other service to the town. The
- Chairman - Alithar Vendarion: An arrogant half-elf with sleek blonde hair; but his arrogance is a coping mechanism for his poor treatment as a child. He doesn't trust outsiders, especially human ones.
- Agriculture - Ergrim Toose: A chipper, friendly old gnome, bearded. No one is entirely sure where he came from, or what he does outside of his council position.
- Guard Captain Arlax Belhym: Female Gold Dragonborn. The wife of Prida Belhym, came out here with her, although she was less enthusiastic about it. She has taken to captaining the guard, and made friends, but there is a small amount of anger and resentment inside that can be felt in her tone.
- Treasurer - Winden Savarna An air genasi who claims to come from a city of air genasi living in the upper atmosphere of the Eye of Chaos. No one tends to believed the story though, so heavily spread is the idea that the planet is utterly uninhabitable. He can be quick to fly from one mood to the next, and often
- Justiciar Armand Vitali: A 52 year old man, with salt and pepper hair, clean shaven. He has the muscled form of one who has lived a life of hard work, despite his official position. The religious head of the town, who also holds the power to determine punishment for those who break the rules.
The Cradle of the World
Although it goes by many names, the Cradle of the World is currently the most popular. This region, just out of sight from the town, is a field of high geothermal activity. At its center is a ring of stones, carved with hideous and creepy looking faces in various expressions, all facing the center of the ring, where a large brazier has been placed. The locals have no idea who made the ring, but they believe that it was constructed because this site is a holy place. They believe that these pools were the birthplace of life on Bastion, and that these ancient people must have also seen this place as sacred. They have adopted the ring as a place of worship and celebration, and view the damage of, or sacrilege towards the sight to be an offense punishable by death.
Three Forks Trade Commission
Established on the 16th of Kynn, 2223 AD, this trade commission was built as the focal trading exchange between the Frostbarrow Coast and the The Saikar Coalition - S.A.C. Some of the goods and trade done by Blacksteel Industries at Salvager's Respite is funnelled through this hub as per a contract made with Evelyn Creighton by Giraffe Punk, increasing the profits of the hub.
