Thornfone

The northwestern port town of Dercrest Island. Its population is 7321. Thornfone is a generally friendly town populated mostly by Rhial. It joins the Island of Dercrest to the rest of North Dogrovia via boat travel. The one-way trip is about 330 miles, taking roughly 3 days to complete a trip in either direction via sailing ship, which can be chartered at the docks.   The town has two main roads. The first is the Farmpath, which spans from Three Ridges in the west to the East District and the farmland beyond. The second is the Southpass, which leads from the northern harbour southeast to the town of Wildford. Both roads converge in Old Thornfone in the upper center of town.   Old Thornfone is a small market district populated mostly by humble folk who make their living as fishers and fishmongers. The cost of living in this town is quite inexpensive, but quality of life is unimpressive. Despite this, the people of Thornfone maintain a generally pleasant outlook on life. They are used to seeing many a traveller pass through in their travels between Fanatheas and North Dogrovia.   The island of Dercrest is governed by Lord Maxwell Burgess, a portly Rhial man who is decidedly less friendly than the other residents of Dercrest. Lord Burgess lives in a manor in the Feychapel district of Thornfone.   The Feychapel district is a region of very old timber-and-stone buildings, all in various states of disrepair. Vines climb the sides of many of the buildings, curling into the cracks of the stonework. At the top of a large hill southeast of the town sits the ruin of a small, yet dignified, wooden chapel accessed via an offshoot of the Farmpath -- this is The Feychapel itself. It bears no markings indicative of the chapel's denomination. The door and all the windows are boarded up, and many of the wooden beams supporting the chapel are bowed and slightly rotted. The entire chapel is surrounded by a ring of brightly-coloured mushrooms, outside of which are posted a high concentration of armed guards who deny entry to anyone attempting to approach.   Sidequests:   1. [In Old Thornfone] An elderly Rhial woman (Meredith) claims she was wrongfully accused of stealing from Lord Burgess and is being taken to jail when the players arrive in Old Thornfone. Players can investigate the case to determine that the true culprits are two Halfling thieves (Spy and Bandit Statblocks). If caught and brought to the town guards, the old woman's innocence is proven. She offers the players a small reward of 5gp each, and Lord Burgess will offer the party a small favour in return for the capture of the culprits.   2. [Inside the Bronze Hearth] A lone Wood-Elf child (Strella) tells the party that she was separated from her family while travelling from Wildford to Thornfone. The last place that she saw them was outside of town on the Southpass, where they were attacked by grotesque monsters that came from the woods.
