First Martian Revolution
The Martian Revolutionary War, later referred to as the First Martian Revolution is the series of events surrounding the first attempt at Martian independance from Lunaren rule.
The Conflict
Prelude
Tensions between Luna and Mars became strained in the years since the Lunar Revolutionary War. Despite continued growth and what Lunaren officials described as the Colony Golden Age unrest still boiled beneath the surface. Too many Martian colonists, who had never lived anywhere but the red planet, remembered how Luna had gained their independance through the destruction of the Martian moon of Phobos, and few who held onto the memory could forgive.
Deployment
Luna responded to the increase in Martian independance sentiment with an increase to Lunar military presence on planet. As a result the Martian Militia, now headed by Bulma Yen-Ortega, saw a massive rise in volunteers, all with reasons ranging from true fear of impending war, to just wanting to thumb their noses at the Lunarens. This led to even further reinforcments being deployed from Luna. Soon after protests started. At first blocking motorcades and security patrols was tolerated, but it wasn't too long before armored security personnel began pushing back against the crowds blocking the Lunar elites from doing their jobs.
The Engagement
After several protester deaths and violent breakups of demonstrations in early 2488 Earth, sighting reports from Earth backed Martian colonies, accused Luna of crimes against its citizens and set up a blockade around the planet to, in their words, “protect the Martian colonists” Fighting on the surface lasted for more than a year with Martian militia members gaining the early advantage by pushing Lunar troops into stronghold and laying seige to colonies of heavy Lunar influence, until Earth rescinded a section of its blockade to address uprisings on Venus. Lunar marine transports quickly punch through the holes in Earthen security and deployed reinforcements to Mars. Over a series of months and targeted operations the Lunarens pushed insurgents out of the various colonies until only a small contingent remained in their fortified bunker within Vesmírna. And finally in 2492 members of the militia, starving and desperate, opened the bunker doors and surrendered.
Outcome
Following the surrender Bulma Yen-Ortega and her close advisors were captured and extridited off planet to be put on trial in the Lunar capital of Revoluna. They were charged with treason and insighting rebellion, found guilty by a military tribunal, and executed, thus putting an end to the first conflict between Mars and Luna. After reestablishing control over Mars and its facilities the Lunaren government agreed to reassess it's relationship Martian, they declared Mars no longer a colony but a province, and created the Martian Provincial Representation Board to act as the local power on Mars.
