Earth

Earth is the third planet in Sol System, and home of the human species.

History

For most of human history the Earth was the steadfast home of humanity. A place for the tiny ape species to thrive and grow, cultivate and invent. The rise in civilization saw a rise in safe harbors for larger and larger groups of people, and over the eons the population of Earth grew, and with it, the need for resources, energy, and livable space. Eventually Earth’s population surpassed 16 billion, and as the planet itself began to heat up and the sea level began to steadily rise, the need for resources and space was more glaring than ever before. At first is was the loss of a few cities such as New Orleans, Venice, Reykjavík, and Sydney; soon whole islands and land masses followed as the American state of Hawaii, Philippine islands, and a large portion of Madagascar vanished beneath the ocean. To combat the loss of livable land and the increase in population inland cities begin to build layers down in to the bedrock, and new technology to allow cities to exists in the oceans, both above and below the waves. It wasn’t long before, in 2094, the first full generation of humans come to adulthood having lived under water for their entire lives.

Lunar Colonization

The colonization of Luna began in 2107 as an effort to combat severe overpopulation on Earth. While human had been present on the moon in a semi-permanent fashion since 2024, military personnel and tourists were the main inhabitants. Permanent colonization had never been attempted. Using habitat designs taken largely from recently created undersea cities, the first Lunar colony, Aldrin, was established in 2112 with a population of 68 (20 families). The first Lunar child was born two years later.

World War III

The events that came to be known as World War III were a series of wars and conflicts between super power nation-states and state organizations, namely Russia, the United States, China, and the European Union as well as other NATO and allied countires. In 2126 Joint attacks by China and Russia left the world scrambling, despite seeing the mobilization and preparing defenses, NATO and American forces were not prepared for the ferocity of the offensive. In the south 680 missiles were launched in a fifteen minute window, all aimed at American or allied military bases or active duty ships. Missiles rained down onto Guam, the Phillipenes, South Korea and southern Japan for hours, exhausting military personnel and missile defense systems and leaving the naval units in the area helpless to do anything except dodge incoming warheads; meanwhile amphibious assult troops poured onto the shore of Taiwan. Up north Russia mounting an invasion of Poland through Belarus, also launched a pre-attack solvo of missiles, but to less sucess, NATO and old American Iron Curtain defenses were effective against roughtly 73% of the barrage; however, the remaining missiles that got through caused devestation to bases and missile silos across eastern Europe, curtailing the scope of any counterattck the allies could make.   These attacks led to months of fighting in both the Seas of Japan and China as well the lands of eastern Europe. Between the hundreds upon hundreds of missiles being launched almost simultaneoiusly across the globe, and the similar detonation times, to this day no one is quite sure who fired the first nuclear missile, however we know that the first two detonations occured in Seol and Nanjing. It wasnt long after before detonations were reported in London, New York, St. Petersburg, Hong Kong, Osaka, Seattle, Delhi, Stockholm, Moscow, Tehran, and on and on, until all communication from and on Earth ceased for nearly a century as famine and nuclear winter set in.

Reconstruction

World War III and the resulting nuclear strikes saw the deaths of an estimated 560 million people in the matter of hours and days, however, the total death toll from the war wouldnt be seen for years to come and would total in billionsand be counted as percentages of the world population. The immediate aftermath of the war was a famine that lasted four years, with fields now filled with a world-wide layer of muddy irradiated ash. Mass migrations and civil wars broke out as nations' governments toppled one by one. Starvation and tribalism followed.   As temperatures and climate began to normalize the remnants of a former staate assembly known as the United Nations (UN) began to reconvene and discuss plans to rebuild, it started small, rebuilding population centers and agricultural hubs within new temperate zones, regaining satelite control and global communications, and assessing what of the planet's infrustructure was left. Being the only truly organized military on the planet, and only navy to speak of, it took less than twenty years to eastablish themselves in 2270 as the Unites Nations of Earth a legitimate governing body for the world population.

Lunar Revolutionary War

The direct attack from Luna at Xanthe Outpost started the Lunar Revolutionary War, which saw two theaters on both Mars and in the Earth Lunar system. Both the Martian and Lunar campaigns saw deadly fighting on both the ground and in orbit above the planets. Escalation of which on all fronts led to the destruction of Phobos and an end to the war that saw Lunar independanced established and the creation of the Democratic Parliament of Luna.

Venus Colonization

In 2323, after humanity started to recover from the collapse of Earth’s governments and the Lunar colonies, the first permanent Exo-planet Orbital Science Station is built above Venus to test viability of Venusian clouds as filtered air and fuel materials. Then sat largely ignored for centuries as a power struggle waged in the increasingly tense relationship between Earth and Luna.

Venusian Independance

In 2491 seperatists from various Venusian cities banded together and captured the two UNE naval shipyards in orbit around Venus. They declared the stations, ships and equipment as property of the now Sovereign Venus, letting the UNE servic members leave and deliver thier message to the Unites Nations of Earth.   In response the UNEN pulled forces assisting in the Martian Independence War and set up a blockade around Venus. This led to a year's long siege full of stalemate skirmishes. It was Earth that finally capitulated and stood down, fearing mutiny or rebellion in their own ranks after years of prolonged fighting in foreign space.
