Session 2, Scene 1: Adventuring Society tryouts

Plot points/Scenes

The party and a bunch of other prospective new members of the Caffeinehagen University Adventuring Society have gathered in a clearing in the West Woods, where they're greeted by the members of the society, and a large array of wooden weaponry.   Hallia Vedalken leads the tryouts, and gives a speech before they begin. Points to cover:
  • Thank everyone for being there
  • Congratulate them or figuring out the puzzle on the flyer
  • Introduce herself, Runk Skunklung, Ilkan Longleap and Ari Mas
  • Explain how the selection process for the society works - it's not necessarily about who wins, but that helps
  • Explain how people can progress to the next phase - good skills, good teamwork, something unique to offer
  • Explain the rules for capture the flag

Capture the flag rules

Capture the flag is played as a LARPing game:
  • Wooden weapons only
  • No offensive spells - offensive spells
  • It's an object interaction to pick up the flag
  • If you take damage while holding the flag, you must make a Constitution saving throw to keep hold of it. The DC is equal to 10 or half the damage taken, whichever is higher
  • If you drop to 50% HP, you lose a limb. Roll a d4 to determine which limb. 1 = Left Arm, 2 = Right Arm, 3 = Left Leg, 4 = Right Leg
  • When at 25% HP, you lose a second limb
  • The game takes place in a forested area. You'll be able to see opponents within 15 feet, or spend an action to do a perception check to look for people to see people further away than that

After capture the flag

The society congratulate everyone on their gameplay etc, and invite a selection of teams to follow the society to a meeting.
