Deephollow Caverns
The Deephollow Caverns are a vast system of tunnels and caverns spreading across Savinaru. The main residents of this subterrainian realm are the dwarves, but both cave goblins and several species of beastfolk live down here as well.
Geography
The main geography of Deephollow is tunnels, but through either natural processes or outside intervention many pockets of air form into large chambers. There is also many large bodies of water, where hydrothermal vents pump nutrients into the water for loads of aquatic creatures feed on them.
Ecosystem
The basis of the Deephollow ecosystem is hydrothermal vents in deep underground lakes. These vents feed crabs, tube worms and dozens of other species, who then feed the creatures of the caverns. Some flora also manages to grow, like various mushrooms decomposing corpses or a species of thaumivoric lichen that is prevalent in wild magic zones. These form the foundation of an ecosystem separate from the surface world.
Fauna & Flora
All of the fauna in Deephollow possesses one of two traits: either they can see in the dark or they can produce light.
At both the top and botom of the food chain are the Ythik. Ythik are a species of insect that live in massive hives and have a variety of forms to suit their role. They will eat anything they can get a bite of, making them dangerous predators. However, many carnivorous creatures will gladly pick off a few ythik swarmers if they can, as they are both weak and plentiful.
Natural Resources
The two most common resources in Dephollow are stone and metal, both of which dwarves have learned to take great advantage of.
History
The Deephollow Caverns were carved when the elementals first shaped the world, but have grown due to time and tunneling creatures. The first people to settle the caves were cave goblins, which grew numerous with only beasts to compete with. The most influential denizens however were the dwarves, who fled down into the dark and overran the place.
