Savinaru
Savinaru is the whole world, and the default setting for Industrial Strength Heroism.
Geography
Savinaru is a roughly earth sized planet with 5 continents, or 6 if you include Tovirisal. It has 4 moons and a titanic phoenix named Pyratos orbiting it as a sun.
Fauna & Flora
The wildlife of Savinaru have evolved in a world heavily saturated with magic, leading to that magic taking a role in the planet's evolution. Many creatures use this extra power to simply be better at what their niche is good at, like ambush predators developing illusory camoflage or skiddish herbivores empowering their legs to be supernaturally fast. Plenty have been more creative with their magical powers though, such as the Stonemelters, a species of Deephollow birds who use their magical power to spew acid to soften stone enough to tunnel through.
History
Historians break Savinaru's history into several ages:
Elemental Age: This is the creation of Savinaru. In the beginning, elementals shaped the planet. Earth elementals shaped the ground, water elementals carved rivers and filled oceans, air elementals balanced the atmosphere and fire elementals ignited the core, with the great phoenix Pyratos becoming the sun. It is said that during this age that Pyratos exploded the moons into existence. A massive asteroid was falling toward Savinaru, so the phoenix blasted it with a powerful burst of fire and shattered it into several chunks. The largest chunks became the moon, while countless other tiny fragments fell to the ground.
Primal Age: The age before sentient beings. There are rumors and hints at societies during this time but they are generally considered false. It is during this time that life blossomed and spread across the world. This wide, vague time period covers everything from the first cells to the first known civilizations. Early in this era is also believed to be when Belatova and Skaljigan came into being, primal beings embodying the beginning and end of life.
The Age of Civilization: This is when early empires began to form. The first civilizations formed, eventually culminating in the largest and most powerful: the elven empoire of Alentheas.
The Imperial Age: This is the age of the elf's empire. A grand and wonderous time for the elves, a fearful time for the rest of the world. With their great magical and military power, they could do just about anything they wanted. There were still other powers to contest them, but their influence was great. It was during this age that dworcs were split into dwarves and orcs.
The Splintered Age- The age following the fall of the empire. Exact dates vary, but the most widely agreed upon fall of the empire is X, when a powerful elven city angered a powerful giant who destroyed the city. Alentheas continued existing for a century or two following this, but X was a devastating blow started a downward spiral as other factions took advantage of their stagger to break pieces off, and it is a convenient and thematic end point for historians. Elf hubris causes them to anger a godlike titan, who smacks them down for their hubris. Following the shattering of the Empire, dozens of the old imperial provinces became independent kingdoms, many of who sought to be the heart of a new Alentheas.
Age of Beasts- This age overlaps with the beginning of Splintered Age, it is the time period where various beastfolk arrived on Savinaru. This started with humans and years later was followed by many other types. Minotaurs, Gnolls, Kodiark, etc.
Age of Writhing Borders- This was an age of conflict. Orcs, humans, goblins, the remnants of the elves and more all began carving up Savinaru. It is named for how often borders changed, with one account of a city being owned by a different nation every day for a week. While probably embellished, it showcases the constant flux well.
Doombringer War-The Doombinger War was a massive demonic invasion, in which a minor demon lord called The Doombringer. A powerful ritual was conducted in the far wilderness of northern Gorotura, which allowed a horde of demons to spill out. The rampage of these demons fueled the destructive magic of the portal, eventually letting The Doombringer into Savinaru. While the demon invasion drew local attention as a problem to stop, The Doombringer got the whole continent on alert. It was also during this war that dwarves returned to the surface in an event known as The Rising.
The Present- Following the end of the war, the rest of the world saw dwarf tech and a race to catch up began. The setting is currently on the edge of an industrial revolution. Machines and factories are beginning to spring up in big cities, simple firearms are common, and the wheels of automation are beginning to spin.
