The Ruins of Borimdun
Guilds and Factions
While nothing lives in the ruins, there are several groups that remain in and near the ruins. The ythik hive is weaker than before their war with the dwarves but it remains, and retains a presence in the ruins, with their hive expanding to some of the closest tunnels. A gang of cave goblins live in some of the other tunnels, looting the remains for any magical items they can get their grubby little hands on. The Guild of Exotic Requisitions has the same idea, and has a camp set up on the surface to both harness the latent mana and delve into the ruins to loot anything valuable they can find.
History
Borimdun was once a thriving dwarven city, partially thriving due to the magical nexus the dwarves discovered deep underground. A Manawarp Nexus formed deep below ground, and the dwarves managed to contain the vast power in a complex, geometric battery made of crystalized mana and a magically potent alloy called Runesilver. With a stable Nexus at their command, the dwarves of Borimdun became proficient mages, with dwarves from other cities even coming to Borimdun to learn wizardly magic. This prosperity let the dwarves expand out, digging both deeper and higher. While digging up, they eventually reached the peak of the mountain their city was built under. The first dwarf to see the night sky was entranced with the sparkling tapestry of starlit wonder they beheld.
But not all was great for the dwarves of Borimdun, for as they dug further down they eventually came across one of the largest ythik hives ever found. The bugs were excited to find a whole city full of tasty dwarves just above them, and began to swarm. Thus began The X War, where the dwarves did their best to exterminate the ythik as the ythik crashed against the dwarves like a hungry tide. While the dwarves fought hard and did massive damage to the hive, it cost them the lower levels of Borimdun. The swarm pushed the dwarves into the mountain, and showed no signs of stopping. So a plan was hatched, one so stupid it just might work. They drained all the mana from their Nexus to cast a powerful spell, the most powerful one Gorotura had ever seen. They severed their mountain from the ground, and sent it to join the stars. This massive undertaking caused a massive eruption of magic, devastating the land around the mountain and creating a massive wild magic zone. Mages across Savinaru felt the massive arcane disturbance as well, as the amount of magic needed drained the surrounding countryside until it was released by the spell.
Points of interest
The Ruins of Borimdun are the most interesting part of the wild magic zone. While most of the surroundings are a mana infused wasteland, the lower levels of the city remain mostly intact. They're worse for wear after being swarmed by ythik and exploded by magic but they're still there, filled with remnants of the grand city they once held. This trove of treasures both archeologically and literally has drawn dozens of bands of adventurers into the ruined tunnels.
Natural Resources
Most of the natural resources of the area were either taken by the dwarves or destroyed by the mountain's launch. The dwarves mined out all the ore in the local area and the forests around the base of the mountain were flattened by the massive explosion of magic. That magic itself however, has become a coveted resource. Not only do many animals make a point to stop by to absorb extra mana, but several factions seek to harvest the latent magic oozing out of every rock and stone.
