Northlands

The Northlands is a general geographic terms for that part of the Rankan Empire that lies north-west of Ranke itself, north-east of Ilsig (and across the World's Edge Mountains) and north of Sanctuary. The northern boundary is defined by the Barrier Peaks. The exact boundary of the Northlands is not defined - it is not a Rankan political division, but more a general term to refer to a region that is generally regarded as backwards, unsettled, lacking in civilised comforts and dangerously exposed to raids by various Khandak human, orc, goblin and giant tribes from the mountains to the north.
