Defences
Briar Glen is defended by a banked palisade of wood, with a stone gatehouse. There is also a postern gate leading to the remaining watermill, ferry across the Brin River and fisheries. On the northwestern side, there is a section of repaired palisade where the original construction was swept away by a flood.

Geography
Briar Glen sits on a low rise at the confluence of the Brin River and Black River. Its position makes it relatively defensible, but subject to periodic flooding from the rivers in the spring with snowmelt, and also means that land for farming is less accessible, reducing its potential size.
