Bayinae

The Bayinae are an ethnic group that lives in the Choking Forest in Kaipei. Their oral tradition states that they had existed in the region since the first age of humanity, making them the heirs to Sumaka by divine right.   Religion is the most important aspect of Bayinae society. Most people worship with devout reverence, the clergy of individual churches are regarded as pillars of local communities, and the Bayinae nation's leader is considered a divine agent of the god Loseta. Their legends state that when Loseta was creating mankind, she placed the Bayinae in the Choking Forest so that they could claim Sumaka as their birthright.   To this day, the Bayinae nation firmly controls Sumaka and all the power that comes with it. Their leader, the Kyne, lives in Sumaka Moru, the holy city beside the outcrop.

Relations

The Bayinae have direct access to a sea route that connects them to the Quiet Green, and in turn, the Mauvoy people. Although the Mauvoy keep as much distance from the Bayinae as any other culture, they are open to trade with them, making Bayinae ports the first stop for Mauvoy imports.   Similarly, the Bayinae have a positive trade relationship with the Vekas, as does almost everyone in Saekai.   However, this is where the Bayinae's relationships with other cultures turn from sweet to bitter. They are well aware that, should the Osaedai come to control Sumaka, they would have a monopoly on the power of Cymere Outcrops. It would be an understatement to say that the Bayinae are wary and distrustful of the Osaedai.   On the other hand, the Bayinae maintain a long-standing grudge with the Vailun over Fallow Point. The Bayinae believe that the Vailun have no right to the land, since it was forfeited to Lasang, who promised it to the Bayinae. Although their might is superior thanks to Cymere, they are wary of starting conflict with the Vailun in case the Osaedai take it as an excuse to go to war.
