Osaedai

The Osaedai is an ethnic group that controls the sprawling city-state Nova. Although they are the smallest and youngest civilization in Saekai, they lay claim to the largest known cluster of Cymere Outcrops in the archipelago.   According to legend, the founder of Nova and first true Osaedai was a sailor named Osaeka. The god Lasang appeared to her in a dream and told her of a great power in the middle of the ocean. Osaeka convinced a group of fellow sailors to follow her on this divine pilgrimage, and they soon discovered the enormous Cymere outcrops in the ocean. Their ships became the foundation for Nova, and the sailors became the first of the Osaedai.   Although Nova is the only territory under direct control of the Osaedai, their influence spreads throughout Saekai thanks to the Cymere they can bargain with. It would be no overstatement to call them the most powerful group in the entire archipelago, and rumor holds that they seek to increase their power by controlling even more Cymere outcrops.

Relations

The only ethnic group that the Osaedai have no connection to is the Mauvoy. Nova is so far away from their civilization that they do not maintain trade or communication.   On the other hand, the Osaedai have close ties to the Vekas, as their location serves as convenient midway point between Kaipei and Incama. Since the Osaedai lack access to certain materials, trade is vital for them, and they are a consistent source of capital (whether in gold, service, or Cymere) for Vekas traders.   The Vailun have a relationship with the Osaedai that could be described as strained at best. Lasang, the patron god of the Osaedai, is the one who killed the Vailun's gods Tallu and Takai. Rumors suggest that the only reason that diplomacy hasn't deteriorated into outright hostility is because the Vailun are able to offer raw materials and craftsmanship to the Osaedai.   As for the Bayinae, their nation is wary of the Osaedai, and with good reason. Should the Osaedai go to war them and come to control Sumaka, they would hold a monopoly on the power of Cymere in Saekai.
