Avariels Species in Ruten | World Anvil

Avariels

Avariels are a race of humanoids that are rarely found across Ruten and the other planes of existence. Visually, they are very similar to their ancestors, the Elves, with the exception of two large wings that protrude from their shoulder blades.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Anatomically, avariels are very similar in bodily structure to elves. Their height, bodily proportions, and even smaller details such as eyes and ears are completely indistinguishable from that of an elf. The major differences come from their wings and their skeletal structures. Unlike elves, avariels have large, feathered wings similar to that of an Angels. Though angels are usually limited to white and gold wings (or, in the case of a fallen angel, black), the wings of an avariel can vary from white to black to brown and even to a muted yellow. Also unlike elves, avariels have hollow bones, which drastically reduces their weight and helps them be able to fly much easier.

Genetics and Reproduction

Avariels have a similar reproductive cycle to humans, though their birthrates are significantly higher. An avariel pregnancy usually lasts approximately nine months, with the avariel giving birth to an average of three to five children.   Avariels are capable of reproducing with many humanoid races. Most notably is their ability to reproduce with elves, with the offsprings universally being avariel children. Most other humanoids with which they reproduce will result in a roughly even chance of either race being present in the offsprings.
