Orcs Species in Ruten | World Anvil

Orcs

Orcs are a large hulking war race, known for their brutality and cruelty. Violent and vicious, they tear across a battleground with an intimidating presence, swinging weapons much larger than most can wield. They are the cursed descendants of the Elves, carefully manipulated and corrupted by Orcus, who many of them continue to worship to this day. While most orcs are reviled by the civil races, some orcs, such as Magadar Muraork, have integrated themselves successfully into normal society.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Orcs are similar to humans and other humanoid races in anatomy, though much larger and usually more muscular than their counterparts. Their bones are also much denser than many other races, making them much more durable to physical attacks.

Genetics and Reproduction

Orcs have a slightly shorter gestation period than humans, lasting between 7 and 8 months and producing an average of 2-3 children.

Ecology and Habitats

Orcs are acclimated to warmer climates, and while they are capable of living in cold weather, tend to dislike doing so.

Dietary Needs and Habits

An orc's diet primarily consists of meats, fish, and dairy, usually heavily salted or dried to preserve it for long periods of time. While they are capable of eating other foods, they usually choose not to, with most hating the tastes.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Orcs have slightly better hearing than humans, due to the fact that they have slightly longer ear canals and two extra muscles in their ear.

Civilization and Culture

Beauty Ideals

The beauty ideals of an orc are directly related to the darkness of their skin and eyes. Orcs with melanism combined with Aniridia are considered to be a prophet of Orcus in most orcish culture, while albino orcs are considered cursed and often killed at birth.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Orcs, like humans, are extremely genetically compatible with many of the other humanoid races.
