Larine Arneza

"I'm a known face, I mean just look at this."
— Larine Arneza, Episode 5: The Aftermath

Description

A Quandrix fangirl, she was decked out in blue and green merch as early as orientation. Even her teal hair matches the Quandrix colors. She’s used to being fawned over for her beauty, and doesn’t know how to handle situations in which people don’t do as she demands.
She considers most non-humans to be “lessers”, a trait she learned from her father. She has particular animosity toward tieflings – her father lost all his money at a gambling den, and she prefers to blame the race of its owner instead of her father’s addiction.

Family

The Arnezas are a well-known family, with all three of their kids (Louie, Timothy, and Larine) attending Strixhaven. Less well known is their current money problems due to Hugo Arneza’s gambling addiction.
According to Larine, only she and her mother are “worth a damn” in her family. She’s close with her father despite his problems, and assumed many duties as family head after his incarceration for his acts as The Collector.

Year 1 Involvement

Larine was first encountered during orientation. Adorned full Quandrix merch, she tried to cut in line to steal the needed scavenger hunt item from the F Squad. When Griff stopped her, she went on a tirade, calling him a “lesser”. She ultimately bribed Gary for the item she needed.
Later, she paid Gary again to steal the mimeograph from the alchemy lab. She claimed it belonged to her father and was necessary to save her family from debt. She told him about the gambling den and her distrust of tieflings, advising he watch his belongings around Mistake.
Larine’s friendship with Gary caused friction between him and Mistake. Mistake assumed Gary, like other humans she’d known, would support Larine’s bigotry if it served him. However, Larine spoke with Mistake and described how Gary stood up for her, Griff, and others Larine saw as “lesser”. Mistake later apologized to Gary for coming to the wrong conclusion.
Partway through the year, Larine asked the F Squad to help find her missing friend and tower mate, Jordyn, who’d been trapped within the Scriptoria after being followed by the missing clockwork servant. Larine was incredibly thankful and relieved with the successful rescue mission and immediately escorted Jordyn to the infirmary.
Larine was her father’s plus-one at the Burninghammer Winter Gala. She’d retired early after the sleeping poison started to take effect. The next morning, Gary broke the news to her about her father’s work as the Collector, and how the Oriq used her to sneak books holding Oriq agents onto campus. He gave her a sending stone in case she needed anything, and left her with the opportunity to talk with her father before he was turned over to authorities.
Larine was close with her father, and despite his bad habits, never suspected he was an Oriq. Back at campus, she spent most nights crying from grief and stress and would over-indulge at parties. She used Jordyn as a therapist, harming their friendship. She became further upset upon realizing Gary, whom she’d had developed a crush on, was now dating Aurora.
Larine kept in touch with her father through letters, and he warned her of the timing of big Oriq plans in an effort to keep her safe. She tried to share this information with Dean Kianne, but was repeatedly rebuffed. Mistake and Gary suggested she talk to Dean Imbraham instead, suspecting Dean Kianne of being the Oriq infiltrator among the staff.
This is also when Larine thanked Gary for listening to her venting through the sending stone. However, the stone had stopped working weeks prior. Realizing she’d been talking to no one, she threw the defunct stone at Gary and didn’t talk to him for the rest of the year.
