Keraunee
Grand Minister of All the Myriad Oceans and Seas Mazu (a.k.a. Keraunee, Keronax)
In Jiaohai, Keraunee was instead the Grand Minister of All the Myriad Oceans and Seas, Mazu, a revered figure seen as the protector of seafarers and fishermen. She is often depicted as a beautiful woman with long hair, wearing flowing robes, and holding a staff or a lotus flower. Her eyes are said to be sharp and piercing, and her presence is both calming and commanding.
In some depictions, Mazu is shown with a third eye on her forehead, symbolizing her ability to see beyond the physical realm and into the spiritual realm. She is also sometimes accompanied by a pair of dragons, who represent her power and authority over the oceans.
In the Mythic Land of Jiao, it is said that the sea and its creatures were created by the goddess Mazu. Her true form is that of a giant dragon-turtle hybrid, with scales the color of the ocean and eyes that reflect the depths of the sea. She is a symbol of protection for sailors and fishermen, and her followers believe that she watches over them during their journeys.
As her worship spread throughout the land, her portfolio and personality splintered into several aspects. Keraunee, the goddess of storms, shipwrecks, and marriage, is depicted as a beautiful woman with long, flowing hair, holding a lightning bolt in one hand and a ship's anchor in the other. Sailors often pray to her for safe journeys and protection from the wrath of the sea.
Keronax, the world encircling Ocean Dragon, is a fierce and powerful aspect of Mazu. He is depicted as a massive dragon with wings, claws, and teeth made of coral, and a roar that can shake the very foundations of the ocean floor. Keronax is revered as the protector of the sea, and his followers believe that he can control the tides and summon powerful storms to defend his domain.
Mazu and her aspects are worshipped through offerings of incense, food, and flowers, and through elaborate ceremonies that involve song, dance, and prayer. Her followers believe that she brings good fortune and blessings, and that by worshipping her, they can ensure a safe and prosperous journey across the sea.
Despite her divine status, Mazu is revered for her compassion and willingness to help those in need. Many seafarers and fishermen pray to her for protection and guidance when setting out to sea, and she is also seen as a patron of travelers and those who journey to distant lands.
