Brimstone

Brimstone is a town in the western Cantha region of Orpheus, built on the backs of Indents who work the perilous sulfur mines of Brimstone Hollow. It stands at the edge of the Imperial frontier, where the last stretch of the Cantha Rail Line meets the untamed Wildlands. The air is thick with the stench of sulfur and burning coal, the sky often obscured by black smog drifting from the mines mixed with sandstorms from the wildlands.   This is not a place of comfort. Brimstone exists for one reason: to fuel the Empire’s war machine. The Imperial Labor Office controls the flow of workers and resources, processing Indents like cattle and assigning them to grueling shifts in the surrounding mines, or fulfilling other tasks. Those who survive their contracts might buy their freedom—but most simply break before they ever see the end of their debt. Despite its brutal conditions, Brimstone is a place of opportunity for the desperate. Smugglers, bounty hunters, and mercenaries drift through, looking for work, weapons, or a way out. Black-market merchants sell forbidden relics scavenged from the Wildlands, while whispers of rebellion stir beneath the surface.   To the Empire, Brimstone is a resource to be exploited—to those who live there, it’s a prison with no walls.
