Session 2
A Prison with no Walls
A Prison with no Walls
General Summary
Continuing north from Quarry Junction, the players find themselves in the frontier town of Brimstone to report to the Imperial Labor Office for their work assignment. Upon entering South Brimstone, the party is met with a shanty town - likely, where many indents who work here live - at its center are a few amenities; a cheap hostel, a pub called the Keg & Cask and a Blacksmith's shop called Flint & Steel. Gupogis Turgido enters Flint & Steel to be met with its owner Dagny Flint, and once again uses his silver tongue to convince Dagny to let him purchase a kit of Thieves Tools entirely on credit - something Dagny never normally approves of. Meanwhile, Thane Boykos is exploring near where some caravaneers have made camp, when he spots a peculiar red tent with a sign outside labeled "Madam Dalma". Upon entering the tent he is met with a mysterious fortune teller, who offers to give him the answers he seeks if he agrees to smoke a strange red herb to reveal "the sight". Thane reluctantly decides to smoke the herb in the water pipe, and is transported into a short lived yet intense trip - during which he sees something take possession of the strangers body, she delivers this message:
"A rotting stallion stands at the gates of your nation. Death will ravage the new world for its crimes."
A little unnerved but no worse for wear, the party continues forth into Brimstone proper. The main stretch of Brimstone features many shops including a saloon, general store, clinic, carpenter - and of course, easily found by following the near constant influx of indents, the imperial labor office. After patiently waiting to be seen, the party enters the familiar presence of imperial bureaucracy and approaches the desk - players are served by either a nervous looking human man, or a cold and calculated warforged know as CL-47, aka "Clerk". After receiving their work assignment for Brimstone Hollow, each player receives a stipend of 30GP. Alucard's (already unlocked) iron manacles were removed by Marshal Elias Dane, but not without a strict warning... Set to be transported to their work site the following morning, the party had some time to kill as well as newfound wealth. Kell Saleur perused the local shops where he met the shopkeepers Ol' Magda and Professor Ithicus Grumbleweed. Eventually, all players ended up at Salda's Saloon - a clearly popular choice among the locals despite the undertone of corruption. Thane approaches the bar to ask for a drink, once again presented with a unique opportunity to inebriate himself - one he indulges, again. The bartender, a muscular brass dragonborn, pours Thane a shot called the Psychic Cuttlefish - a clear liquid containing tiny, translucent cuttlefish. Upon approaching his mouth, the cuttlefish have a psychoactive effect on Thane; convincing him that this fish is the lost heir to an empire. The effects are fleeting, as the bartender describes that the cuttlefish are not even sentient, and that this is just a pheromone secreted as a defense mechanism to convince other creatures not to eat them. This place is strange. Settling down for the night wherever they could, they await their destiny at dawn.
