Gods

Throughout time, the most powerful people have risen above the rest. They become common names, spoken at every table. And eventually, they ascend beyond the state of mortal. By some definitions, they ascend long before they are commonly known. By holding a Breathe, they are more than an ordinary person. For simplicity, these people are referred to as gods. They are gods the way a bug is a person. The first, true, or only god Thi, once held every Breathe. All the air in the air in the lungs of these once-mortals, all the wind of the planes, and even the absence of Vazid was once all Thi's. Every drop of power held by a single being.   But after Thi, after the Time of Thi... people are prone to filling every gap. They claimed the breathes for themselves, gaining untold power, and yet just a fraction of what had once been. People were eager to latch onto the new beings. The first new gods reigned for the longest, and some still hold a Breathe today.... in whatever distant plane of The Sea they still live in. But they were not like Thi. Thi held magnitudes more than any of the new gods when Saefi sent assassins. So to say that the gods holding a single Breathe were immortal was a laugh. They may have been the most powerful beings on Rhina, but they were still less powerful than a single fragment of Pakpan, less imbued than the soil beneath their feet.   And as the pantheon shifted, destabilized by the knowledge that a god bleeds like a person, well there is a reason the time is referred to as the Time of People . Newer gods arose, replacing the older gods. Creatively, they are referred to as the old gods-- the first generation of gods-- and the new gods-- those still reigning today. Although, what will be the name of the third generation of gods is anyone's guess. But someone will need to name them fast.

Planes*
*The idea that planes are gods comes with quite a bit of debate. If the creation story is true, then each plane has some spark of creation-- an unknown amount of Breathe, but what is typically described as more than what Thi had at death. By nature of holding a Breathe, they have considerable power... However, they are also unresponsive rocks. They are oft personified, but so is the wind, the leaves of a tree, a sword. Nevertheless, they are worshiped by many.
