Djaiss

Djaiss is an old god. They are the god of languages, and keeper of the Library, typically described as the god of scholars. They are said to know everything, and speak every language. Some things, and some words, are known only by Djaiss. Modern scholars argue this makes Djaiss the most powerful being, but they are clearly biased to a god that represents their own endeavors. Records state they hold two Breathes at most, and perhaps only one. This would actually make them one of the weaker gods, especially by the standards of old gods.   Among the pantheon of old gods, Djaiss was disliked by their compatriots.

Divine Domains

god of language, learning, and scholars   Scholars and archivists might worship Djaiss, although prayer is rare. Worshiping Djaiss is a mentality held by followers to guide their lives. Followers do not expect the god to notice them, and the god would not solve their problems for them.   Learning. The pursuit of knowledge is foremost of Djaiss's identities. They are always reading from the infinite supply of material.   Scholars. Adjacent to learning, followers of Djaiss believe that most knowledge is meant to be shared. Teaching and spreading knowledge is honorable, however there is a dangerous flip-side of this sentiment that is readily acknowledged; some learning is too dangerous to be freely available. A cautious curation is required.

Tenets of Faith

Those who worship Djaiss expect nothing in return. The god is absent from this plane (or at least very hidden on it), presumably safe in their Library. Despite the lack of benefits, many scholars find themselves drawn to the god for obvious reasons. The god is said to know everything thanks to the perfect archives of the library. The tenets of followers of Djaiss strive to create their own archives on Rhina. While it will never be as perfect as the god's library, they can do the best that a mortal can to maintain knowledge on the plane. The curation of the library is a group effort of the entire faith, and they believe that knowledge is meant to be shared.   There is a smaller faction that is not acknowledged by the other followers. They believe that creating a library on Rhina is pointless when one already exists with Djaiss. They seek to find the god's library. Their dangerous goal means that the devoted followers remain small. However, it is a treasure seekers dream location and many more hold this goal in secret.

Physical Description

Identifying Characteristics

Descriptions of Djaiss vary greatly. Older descriptions describe the god as a serpent, with a human head atop a cobra-like hood. They do not have arms, but are described as using their long tongue to manipulate objects. These descriptions are typically considered inaccurate, a cruel description of a disliked god. More modern descriptions vary more widely. Obviously inspired by the stories of a serpent, some descriptions say that Djaiss has thick strands of hair that resemble snakes. They are green serpents, with blue under bellies. Others say those are vines. Often times, they cover their face with a bird mask, a dark black that blends in with their eyes, and sparkles of colors glint around the edge of the mask. Some say that it is not a mask. Often, their legs are described as bending backwards at the knee like back legs of a quadruped.   Despite all variations of physical appearance, Djaiss is always described as having black eyes that twinkle with spots of blue. They are said to be the night sky reflecting Pakpan.
