Stonecheeks
The Stonecheeks are an organisation of Dorian nationalists whose origins stem from the fall of the first Brynic Empire. After the establishment of the Empire, Doria had been split into two states, the Grand Duchy of Canyndor and the Duchy of the Dales. This was due to the Emporer being particularly wary of a vassal controlling such a vast territory. This split caused much tension within the region and when the empire eventually fell, conflicts would arise between those seeking more decentralised power and this power for themselves and those who wished to consolidate all Dorian lands once again. This would lead to open revolts by populations within the Dales and the modern Surcounties of Siltala and Manttila where they fought against the newly established independent rulers of the Grand Duchy and the Duchy of the Dales. The fighting within the Grand Duchy was quickly quelled while the fight within the Dales against the Maijalans of Emberdale would continue.
The Lords of Kalevan would assume de facto leadership of the Stonecheeks and greatly expand their forces with defectors from the revolt in the Grand Duchy. The Stonecheeks would gradually be crushed through means of thorough campaigns of inquisition by the Maijalan Duke, and despite the Stonecheeks receiving funding in secret from the Runic Empire and even the Grand Duchy, they would be forced into hiding and guerrilla warfare. The city of Kalevan was even stormed by Maijalan forces and destroyed, remaining a ruin even until modern times. The Stonecheeks forced underground, their only permanent bases rumoured to be located in the Enares mountain range in the southern dales.
The Stonecheeks are one of the militant groups that formed during the period after the fall of the Brynic Empire, while there were others and also peaceful efforts to bring about this goal, all other factions were dispensed, imprisoned or simply ignored till they gave up, while the Stonecheeks continued to agitate.
in modern times, the Stonecheeks are a relatively minor faction, perhaps only comprising of several hundred to a few thousand associates. Most of these being within the eastern provinces of the Grand Duchy and within the Duchy of the Dales. The faction is fairly secretive in its operations and its members, due to charges of treason and insurrection that keeps it functioning openly.
the group had become largely dormant, little activity being documented of the groups usual campaigns or banditry. However, after the Runic invasion of the Dales, the Stonecheeks not only rose up in open rebellion against the invaders but continued to fight guerilla warfare against the runic occupiers and recruit more to their cause while supporting the return of the exiled Duke Urho
Even when the Duke did finally return, put into place as a puppet ruler of the Duchy under Runic control, the Stonecheeks continued to fight and disrupt the governance of the empire within the region. Their leaders often attempting to garner support from Duke Urho and Grand Duke Armas in an attempt to both expel the Runic occupiers and unite the Dorian people.
