Emberdale
Emberdale is the capital city of the Duchy of the Dales, the settlement sitting on a wide bend of the Klinga River that flows into the Tula, in the valley below the Dardunian Mountains. Though Emberdale has become famous for its lavish townhouses and export of fine sapphires from the northern Kansimies Mine, the name found its origins in rather different mining commodities. The city was once the primary site of ore refining for both lead and copper that came from mines in the mountain valleys. While slowly these industries have moved outside the city boundaries, the sky above is often still scarred by the smoke and steam of the refineries.
Emberdale's ideal position for refining and transporting the produce of the Dale's northern and eastern mines would see it become an influential and affluent settlement early on in its history, having become one of the primary cities in the eastern lands of the Kingdom of Doria during its height. It would be under the reign of the Doric Kings that Emberdale would come to be a key holding and home to the Maijalan family, a major house of the royal Ilkitala Dynasty of the Doric throne.
The Maijalan family would build themselves a great castle on the bank of the Klinga river at its intersection with a southerly running stream, the castle would be of a sturdy and symmetrical design, by no means the largest nor most impressive yet defensible and livable. Over time, the stream a river would be moulded to create an elaborate array of moats and islands on which the castle would expand across, now when entering the aptly named Terrace Castle, they will be greeted with lavishly carved gateways proceeding gardens and moats that draw upwards towards the old castle keep.
