Princedom of Miria
The Princedom of Miria is a principality located on the northern edge of the central kingdoms. Miria is comprised of the lands encompassed by the White Eye Mountains and the high frost plains north of The Knives. The principality was once an independent tribal kingdom however as the southern Kingdom of Durabryn grew in size and power, the princedom was annexed and ruled as a semi-autonomous region under the rule of the heir to the Durabryn throne. This continued to be the case throughout the existence of the Brynic Empire, however, after the empire dissolved Miria continued to be known as a princedom due to the conditions of the prevailing confederacy.
Culture
The people of Miria are considered strange to many folks of the southern central kingdoms. Mirian folk deal with a fairly different life than that of the Brynish or Doric due to the unique climate and geography of their land. The near-permanent cold and perilously steep terrain lead the Mirian people to be highly dependant on one another, forming incredibly close, and small, communities. Mirian people often view most aspects of life through a transactional lens, and through to a southerner this may seem selfish or rude, this is far from the case. A Mirian man must always have on his mind how he can help his neighbour and in turn how they can help him. Surplus is limited almost exclusively to the wealthy nobles of the capital, Norbruk.
A particular detail of note in Mirian culture is the prevalence of smoking, a habit that is had by the overwhelming majority of those from the lands of Miria. The most popular form is the pipe-smoking of cured Laua's Leaf imported from the distant land of Breuic, a most costly import however one that Mirian people consider a worthwhile one, the deep smoke of the plant said to help fend from the cold.
