Prince Turo of Canyndor
Prince Turo Ilkitala
Prince Turo, Son of Grand Duke Arttu I, was next in line to succeed his father to the title of Grand Duke of Canyndor. Turo was well-liked among the nobility and subjects of the Grand Duchy, having the reputation of both a handsome and gallant young man, most of his fame was derived from his reputation as a fine jouster and duelist as well as the lavish balls and feasts he hosted at the estates of his favoured noble friends. Though largely popular, Turo would prove to be a poor administrator and statesman. The title of Proviss of Pilkala which was customarily held by the heir to the Grand Duke would be held by Prince Turo who neglected the holding and left the local barons to clean up the mess. The great castle at Pilkala notably fell into a state of disrepair under the tenure of Prince Turo, greatly leading to its hurried repairs during the Doric-Aijian War. Prince Turo would serve a pivotal role in the Doric-Aijian War, after being snubbed by his father for a position as general for the Aijian campaign, it would not be until news of the Siege of Randleton reached the young prince that he would begin to mobilise an army through rallying men from the south-east of the Grand Duchy. He would take this army to meet the Aijian forces who at this time had pushed back the Doric forces into their own lands at the Jola plains in the east of the Surcounty of Sjolund. Prince Turo would lead his army into battle against Aijian opposition on the fields surrounding the road passing through the village of Rebelly, to be known as the Battle at Rebelly Row. The battle ended in a devastating defeat for the Doric forces and resulted in the death of the young Prince. The Battle of Rebelly Row would be seen as a pivotal loss in the war and greatly tarnished public perception of the young prince, songs and literature of the battle largely painting Turo as arrogant and foolish.
As a young boy, Turo would spend much of his time with his mother at Nuonela Palace, at the foot of the Doric Mountains north of Canyndor. It was his mother that would push Turo to become the ever-present crowdpleaser he would become, many believing her to have an unhealthy obsession with her son. Turo himself, as he became a young man, would himself develop quite the obsession with the Lady Nimala , a popular noblewoman who despite being several decades older than young Turo, was still considered a great beauty.
