Kirk of Jala

The Kirk of Jala is a great temple built in worship to the god Jala, the sky god of The Hallowed Faith. The grand building lies on the western edge of Alter Square, one of the principal squares of the capital city, Canyndor, of the Grand Duchy of Canyndor. The grand building consists of two great diamond-shaped canopies, one behind the other, each flanked by many smaller chapels, a large tower facing onto the square itself houses many bells which chime throughout the day.
The origins of the Kirk of Jala lie within a much smaller structure that was commissioned by King Altti "the Silver King" himself, a small chapel intended for the masses of Canyndor dedicated to the god Rakas. King Altti saw the divisions within his large kingdoms in the days after he had united Doria, tensions between the people of the valleys and those of the uplands, those of the plains and those of the forests. Altti used his education of holy teaching to bring inspiration to the people, commissioning religious institutions across Doria intended to heal wounds still fresh. The chapel dedicated to Rakas was among the first of these institutions and its dedication to Rakas intended to mirror Altti's will for the people to extend love and compassion to their Doric kin both old and new.
The chapel would later be expanded and rededicated under Grand Duke Armas I, but not yet to Jala. Instead, Armas saw fit to dedicate the expanded institution to Aimo, the building now consisting of its iconic square-facing tower and a few adjoining wings. It would not be until the reign of Grand Duchess Katariina that the Kirk of Jala would take a form similar to its modern-day iteration and its current deity dedication.
