Herrah (a.k.a. the Beast)
The arachnid ruler of the Weavers of Deepnest, one of the factions in the dream of Hallownest that never bowed to the Pale King. Biological mother of Hornet.
Reign
With the destruction caused the the Radiance's mindplague and the stasis imposed on Hallownest in an effort to halt it, little is now known about Herrah's rule of Deepnest. It is known that Deepnest violently opposed the expansion of the Kingdom of Hallownest into their realm, ruining efforts to build a tramway into their territory and killing numerous workers, and that the Weavers were great craftspeople in that time, making beautiful creations from silk.
Near the end of her reign, as the Infection was spreading through Hallownest, Herrah made a deal with the Pale King. Her consort had died, leaving her without an heir; if the Pale King would provide her with an heir, she would agree to act as one of the Dreamers sealing away the Infection and Radiance in the Hollow Knight. Hornet was the offspring of this union. Herrah's reign effectively ended not long (but possibly several years) after Hornet's birth, as Herrah went into the endless sleep that being a Dreamer entailed.
Later, even as the seals on the Infection began to fail and the plague spread through Deepnest, Herrah's sleeping body was fanatically defended by the infected husks of those Deepnest residents that did not escape to the Weavers' homeland of Pharloom.
