The Pale King
King of the old kingdom of Hallownest. Biological father of Hornet and all of the uncountable Vessels, including Knight and the Hollow Knight. Husband of the White Lady . A cold and calculating king who ruled by cultivating the worship of his citizens. He destroyed the civilization of the Black Hive and the worship of the dream goddess the Radiance to build his kingdom. He created the Vessels in an attempt to seal away the mindplague the Radiance spread among his followers in retaliatory rage. His efforts failed. He sealed himself away in a sub-dream of his White Palace, where he was later found, apparently dead, by Knight.
He briefly returned during the ritual to replace Knight's mask in June of 23 ARL, when it was discovered that he had transferred his psyche over to Knight's mind and was hiding there, waiting to take over Knight's body when his power had sufficiently recovered. He was destroyed once and for all in a dream-realm battle against Knight and Knight's friends.
