United States Remnants

Introduction

The last Surviving Remnants of the US Republic, formed from the Remnants of the US National Guard, Army, Marines and Airforce who could no longer follow the orders of the Federal Government. Using a mix of Old, out of date current and otherwise technology, the Remnants protect what they can, namely the waste cities and do their best to stave off corporate extortion.   They are also the only reason that the American wastes haven't totally devolved into anarchy, with the Remnants sending it's armed forces to wipe out major threats and other hostile organizations. Even with as little resources as they have, the Remnants have become the masters of minimalist strategy. Their forces are designed with the idea of Maximum efficiency.   However in terms of pure fire power, they are a mere shadow of what they once were and are no match against the Neo US Military. Still they are one of the only forces in North America capable of counter acting the Federal Government's overwhelming control.   Theme:

Divisions

The US National Guard

This is comprised of most of the Remnants except for special forces and the Airforce. The National Guard is the back bone of the Remnants, the normal everyday grunts who get the job done. They have few tanks, mostly the dated 2020's Abrams Tank. Instead they depend mostly on MRAPs and APC's for their armour needs. Rarely having the resources to maintain many Abrams anyway.   Mostly using Abrams as shock blitzkrieg element upon open wastes rather then anything else. The National Guard is very well trained and knows how to get the most use out of their weapons. Preferring to waste as little resources as possible.

The US Airforce

Split off from their federal Counter parts, the Remnant Airforce is made up of New and old pilots who self maintain their aircraft. They possess absolutely no new aircraft models and instead have updated the old models as best they can. This is because of the total lack of Industrial support. All of their Jets have been transferred to nuclear fusion engines allowing them to bypass the very little supply of oil and fuel they have.   Each of their jets and planes have been reclassified such as the F22 Raptor-R or the F16-R. This describes the ragtag nature of their air fleets. They only possess one Helicarrier, a carrier that belonged to the US Space Force. After spending decades rebuilding it and putting it back together, the Airforce uses the Carrier as their primary mobile deployment point.

Shadow Ops

The Combination of various rogue special forces members that have combined together to form Shadow Operations, a special forces group that covers all of the Recon, subterfuge and other special operational needs of the US remnants. They conduct clandestine operations within the US to serve the needs of the Remnants and the people they protect, often facing counter operations from the Loyalist federal special forces.   No one knows their names or faces, keeping hidden from everyone in order to protect them. Living in the Shadows so that maybe one day the dawn will rise again.

Logistics & Recruitment

In the days of old, the weapons of America's armies were produced in massive factories by machine, today they're produced by Scavengers and Scav forges. The Remnants are very much connected with the Wastes and it's major settlements for manpower and supplies. Working as a I scratch your back , you scratch mine kind of deal.   Deliveries are done by sporadic and covert deliveries done by incognito vehicles, tunnels, air shipments, whatever the logistics officers can organize, is how the Remnants get their supplies. The Nature of their supply network is heavily inspired by the Terrorist and Guerilla forces the US military fought from 2001 and onwards during the waning days of the Republic.   Their use of tunnels is also heavily inspired by the Vietcong, keeping themselves hidden and well trained in subterranean combat. There is also a Net security wing who keeps the networks of the Remnants safe as well as their operations incognito of the Federal Government.   The US Remnants regularly recruit wastelanders to keep up their numbers as well as keeping the Remnants attached to the people they're protecting.

Intelligence

In the old days, the US Military had uncountable numbers of satellites they can use to help gather intelligence, today they have zero. Instead they depend on Sub orbital 'Sat-drones' to broadcast information across to the different forces. These Drones are able to stay hidden from most forms of detection and provide IFF assistance to the Remnants, able to spot the movements of forces and valuable enemy assets.   They also have anonymous spite network constantly obtaining information with a robust cipher division working constantly to crack enemy codes. Shadow Ops also retrieves a high degree of intelligence for the remnants every op, giving the boots on the ground the best chance of success. However the inferior computing power of the Remnants compared to Federal forces is a huge problem.   To offset this, Remnant Intelligence borrows assistance from allied forces to keep it's self safe from Federal Cyber attacks.

Training

In the old days, the military had bootcamps where they could afford to let politics and infighting mess with the training of recruits and just hope their NCO's sort out the problems after bootcamp. Today, bootcamp is all a soldier can afford in terms of official training. With the condition being what they are, bootcamp is only a week or two on and entirely focused on discipline and organization.   The real training normally comes before or after bootcamp. The Remnants like recruiting wastelanders who already possess survival, combat and comprehension experience and skills. On the off chance they recruit total Green horns, they put their faith in the NCO's to correctly manage these types of soldiers and try to have as few of them as possible.   The reason for this brief training system is because of the tight resource constraints with most resources being delegated to ongoing operations that are always happening. That being said, the Remnants have a very good Success/Failure ratio on their missions and this is entirely thanks to the NCO's. The Remnants pays a lot of attention to NCO's, giving them the skills to win their own mini wars if they have to.

Legality of the Remnants

As the final remnants of the US Republic, they are still accountable to the US Constitution which forbids military deployment on US soil without an insurrection. Given the total lack of congress or President. A state of insurrection can't legally be made however this is largely unimportant due to the current circumstances of their A/O's. Being target rich environments with hundreds  of thousands of raiders, monsters and other wise to kill.    Being a military remnant, they do afford themselves extra leeway in allowing pre-emptive strikes in a non defensive manner against enemy targets. Legally speaking both the Remnants and Neo US military are both American militaries but the Remnants still take the oath to the constitution and are bound by that oath. To avoid the same problems as what occurred in Vietnam and various middle eastern campaigns.    The General Cassius Grant established the Concords of War, that created a rigid and internal system designed to harshly punish abuses of power and severely reduce the likelihood of war crimes. The Remnants have their own set of laws that when breached are deemed as Warcrimes. The Rules are mostly about the welfare of US Citizens and some basic restraints against enemy combatants.   For instance US remnants can decide to execute an entire batch of POW's if there is logistical and strategical reason to do so but they cannot do the same to Non combatants. Defined as individuals who've not directly and intentionally threatened Members of the US Military or Civilians under their protection. Obviously this system is loaded with problems and ethics violations.   However it is far better then what would of existed without it, and that i s a total carte blanche on whatever the Remnants decided to do.

Ideology

As is to be expected, the US Remnants are extremely patriotic for their nation. Flying it's old flags and symbols. Singing it's songs and declaring loud and proud love for it. Of course many could argue that they are in love with the idea of the country and not what it really was. The US remnants are not nationalistic however, they are fully aware of what has become of their homeland.    They firmly believe in the idea of a Liberal Democratic Republic, that is guarded by the constitution and a cadre of institutions. They can be considered old timey and dated due to their celebration of classical American values and ideas. Others consider them ideological fools who celebrate a America that never existed. Some see them as the final bulwark of the Republic   An avenging force to restore democracy, regardless of their perception. The US Remnants share common cause with the violet movement and have shown eagerness to allow and enable their operations against tyranny. By the third Civil War, they became potent allies and contributors to the violet movement's operations and struggle.
