Radiance
Radiance is a religious cult that is focused on the worship of Dominus Lux, The Guiding Light. Radiance believes that organization and laws are ultimately the only thing that keeps civilization in line. Their main goal is that law and order is maintained and criminals are properly punished to prevent chaos.
Mythology & Lore
The members of Radiance believe that the reason that Iron Rain happened on The Surface is because the sentient races of mortals were lawless and chaotic. As a result, Dominus Lux, The Guiding Light sent the Iron Rain to wipe out all chaos of the world and cast the true and faithful underground. The Pit of Tartarus, they believe, it meant to allow access of their god's divine light to shine, even in the underground.
Tenets of Faith
Ethics
While Radiance does believe in order and stability, they are fairly rigid in terms of punishment. Their stated goals are to root out chaos and lawlessness. They allow essentially second chances as per the decree of their deity, but only second chances, not third or fourths or fifths.
Worship
Worship within the religion is typically done in the following ways:
- Sunbathing- There are a few locations near the Pit of Tartarus in Elysium where sunlight is able to get through. Basking in the light of Dominus Lux, The Guiding Light is considered a form of prayer and meditation.
- Invoking Light in dark locations- Specifically in locations of chaos and lawlessness. This is meant to represent the process of bringing order to chaos.
- Organization of objects- The specifics of the organization is irrelevant, so long as they are place in some sort of logical order: size, shape, weight, color, etc. Many priests carry smooth flat stones for this type of prayer.
Priesthood
The structure of Radiance is highly organized into groups of 10. Every 10 standard members of the faith are commanded by a sacerdos. Every 10 of those sacerdos are commanded by a pontufex. Every 10 of those pontufex are commanded by a pontufex princeps. Each of these roles are voted on by the members of those below them. This structure insure that those below them have the power to appoint those above them, but those above them have the ability to command those below them. This structure, Radiance believes, is highly stable.
Political Influence & Intrigue
Like most religions in Elysium, Radiance doesn't have any direct influence on the government. They do work with the Guild of Mages to train their clerics, paladins, and warlocks, but the primary guild they work with is the Guild of Enforcers. They assist with reporting criminals, healing their wounded, providing the enforcers with additional resources, and much more. As such, the Guild of Enforcers has in turn done what they can to make sure the religion is protected in the eyes of The Council.
