Grey Dreamers

The Grey Dreamers are a religious cult that worships Gorash Vall, The Sleeping One. Their main goal is to receive guidance from their god, make sure the city is free of spiritual undead, and perform the rites of passage for the city. Grey Dreamers do not have any direct connections with any of the major guilds, beyond helping train clerics and paladins of the Guild of Mages.

Mythology & Lore

The Grey Dreamers believe that in a time before the Iron Rain fell on Reldaz, beings of massive size once walked on The Surface. These beings were effectively gods of their world, whose very thoughts could control the flow of life and death. However, the smaller races were subjugated under these beings, until Gorash Vall took a stand against them. A war insured between those who wanted to free the smaller races and those who wanted to subjugate them. Gorash Vall's side won, but the defeated side with their dieing breath caused the Iron Rain. Gorash Vall could do nothing to stop a dream so powerful due to being wounded in the war. And so, he chosen to help the races by falling asleep and creating The Grey.

Cosmological Views

The Grey Dreamers believe that Reldaz is ancient and a shade of its former, glorious self. An ancient war between great beings is what lead to the current state of the world.

Tenets of Faith

Ethics

The Grey Dreamers are well known in Elysium for their use of Necromancy, specifically the kiln dried corpses of members of their religion. This leads unease of the people in the city, but ultimately the Grey Dreamers have proven themselves indispensable for the removal of corpses from the city and the removal of spiritual creatures when they infest the city. Grey dreamers believe that the corporeal body is not sacred, and is merely a container of your sacred spirit that has been reborn over and over.

Worship

The Grey Dreamers perform worship in the listed ways:

  • Performing rites of passage, a ritual that protects the spirit of the being in The Grey from being summoning back before its time of rebirth.
  • Oddly enough, sleeping. The Grey Dreamers believe dreams are messages from Gorash Vall, The Sleeping One
  • Self Inflicted pain is also used as a form of worship, looking to share in the pain of their gods into themselves.

Priesthood

The Grey Dreamers have no formal organizational Hierarchy. Instead, members of the religion are said to receive visons through their dreams, and those dream are discussed with the members of the religion. Debates are held regarding their meaning and importance and tasks are decided based on those dreams.

Political Influence & Intrigue

Because the Grey Dreamers perform tasks such as rites of passage, healing, and other services that help the city function, their strange ways and customs are effectually ignored by The Council. The Guild of Mages have also contacted the Grey Dreamers on several occasions to teach at the Towers of Attainment on the field of Necromancy.
