2/8/21 - Reversing the Flow on Kiep Sau
General Summary
Malikae cast Raise Dead, splicing together the material plane and the Kiep Sau. Saepe's body became the focal point and the party was transported to the exact location where the Paladin had died. Unfortunately for Welcome Tasks, Saepe had also died killing a lot of Yuan-Ti and their shadows were more than eager to get some revenge. In addition to the undead, a vulturous creature also joined in the fight, hoping to feast on some living flesh.
The fight was not as straightforward as most and Malikae himself was caught a little flat-footed. The dwarf had still not procured armor after losing his dwarf plate and also learned first hand that Turn Undead has no effect in the underworld. However, once these minor hiccups were worked out, spirit guardians, two spiritual weapons, and Hide Piercer dispatched their foes.
With no immediate threat, Welcome Tasks were able to look around. The structure they were in seemed to be identical to the one where Saepe had died although it was void of any color. Beyond the double doors of the Wolf God , the underground cave system of the material plane was replaced with an endless river bank and waterfall on the horizon cascading upward. As the party approached the shore, they could see flowers and reeds growing along the bank, as well as several massive crocodiles sunning themselves. Just then, the tip of a large canoe breached over the horizon from the waterfall.
This canoe had but one rower and as the individual paddled closer, it seemed somewhat familiar. This creature was roughly ten feet tall and appeared to be a bi-pedal crocodile. When the canoe landed upon the shore, the crocodile demanded to know who had reversed the flow of the river. Malikae introduced himself and stated he was trying to bring back his friend. The Death Shepherd smiled and said he had just journeyed from Testarossa and gave Malikae the incorporeal form of Saepe
Before the crocodile left, there were a few questions to be asked. The crocodile introduced himself as Kethoth , and stated that it was one of seven Death Shepherds under the god of death, Chet. It smiled at the mention of the name Facili , as they too was one of the seven. Kethoth explained that Facili had abandoned their post, claiming that they were not doing the gods' work. It further explanation, they had not ferried Facili to the afterlife and assumed Facili was still somewhere on the material plane. Much food for thought was formed about how the creations of fallen gods could still operate autonomously, but Welcome Tasks' time in the underworld was winding down. Kethoth channeled the river to flow downward once more and drifted over the waterfall.
Now back on the material plane, the party decided to rest at the Nameless Inn. Saepe in particular needed to rest as being brought back to life is exhausting. At around dawn, the party's sleep was interrupted by a knock on the door. The Fallmouth City Guard was performing an investigation. Apparently, there have been a large number disappearances and they wanted to know if anyone Welcome Tasks knew has not been seen as of two days ago. After the interview, the guards thanked them for the party's time and moved on to the next building. In any case, the party is freshly rested and ready to set out for what the day holds.
