The Terpenie Tragedy
Disaster / DestructionAs the Terpenie, a Nadezhda class colony ship, is aerobraking over the planet Rigil Kentaurus c, faulty heat shielding leads to structural failure in reactor pod 3. Rapid decompression kills 37 technical staff. The reactor control is heavily damaged and the core going into meltdown. Aviam Sharov, an off-duty engineer, manages to manually insert the control rods and save the ship, but recieves a lethal dosis of radiation in the span of minutes. The planet will later be named Sharov's World to honor her sacrifice.
