New Worlds Foundation

In the 2040s, when much of the Sol system had been colonized and humanity had truly become an interplanetary civilization, public opinion grew that it was time to take the next step. Solving the problem of interstellar travel and establishing a foothold among the stars, however, would require international collaboration on an unprecedented scale. In 2048 the New Worlds Foundation was established. It's sole purpose is the development of technology for interstellar travel and the facilitation of settlements in other star systems. With its consideable funds, the NWF developed and manufactured fleets of interstellar ships, first generational ships and then ships using the Medusa Drive. Today, its main concern is the maintenance of the infrastructure neccessary for travel between Sol and Alpha Centauri, though research into improved technologies is always ongoing.

Structure

High level decisions concerning the entirety of NWF  are made by the board of directors, comprised of nearly 500 people. The rules by which its members are chosen are as complicated as the political structures of Sol, a mixture of delegates from nation states and member organizations as well as some chosen in system-wide elections. The process is governed by a web of treaties meant to ensure no single interests have undue influence. Decisionmaking is an accordingly arduous process. A large hierarchy of administrational and scientific staff puts policies into practice.

Assets

The NWF is the richest non-government, non-profit organization in existence. Over the last century and a half, enormous amounts of money have been contributed by nations, corporations and private citizens alike. The foundation's most important physical assets are the fleet of interstellar ships and the accompanying infrastructure.
