Alena Melinkova Spaceport

The Alena Melinkova Spaceport is Kent Prime's main location for passenger space travel. It is located on New Oceania, about 70 kilometers landinwards from Nadezhda City. This distance from the next settlements is necessary, because both starting and landing spaceplanes tend to produce sonic booms, which would disturb residents or in extreme cases might even cause damage such as shattered windows. The spaceport consists of a large concrete runway, around 5 kilometers in length. It is connected by various taxiways to a complex of maintanence hangars, as well as a large passenger terminal. Up to 10 spaceplanes can be boarding at the same time and a total of 36 can be accomodated for maintenance. A series of pipelines connects the spaceport to the coast. They transport desalinated sea water. Part of it is used for drinking water, the bulk of it, however, is converted into hydrolox fuel by a electrolysis plant.
To keep the surrounding air space clear and enable a higher passenger throughput, the spaceport is connected to Nadezhda City not with the autogyros typically used for inland travel, but instead with the Alpha Centauri systems first maglev. In the city, passengers can change onto ekranoplan lines to other parts of the planet.
New arrivals stepping into the main hall of the terminal are greeted by a 5 meter tall statue of the spaceport's namesake Alena Melinkova, the first person to set foot on Luna.
