Longport
Longport, Longport...a place where you can buy anything you could possibly want, for a certain price of course.Town of Longport is the biggest centre of sea trade in the entire Free Duchies. Located on the shore of the Krisna almost equally far away from either north and south borders of the Great Plains, it attracts the trade from the entire coast. This advantageous position is further strengthened by the fact that it is the closest big port to the Calacle Island. People of Calacle Island, who live on a relatively small piece of land far away in the waters of the river, are the most experienced sailors among the whole Human race. Often working on a coastal trade, they are the only ones to go to the opposite side of the river, trade with local countries and bring rare treasures to Longport for sale. As a result, Longport attracts a lot of rich people and, therefore, even more of different rare goods.
Demographics
The settlement, being deep into the civilized human territory, is almost exclusively inhabited by humans. Occasionally, you can meet a dwarf, a gnome or a halfling selling their goods in the Longport. Most of the local inhabitants are either workers or sailors, while the rest of them are servants to local merchant families.
Government
The town is ruled by a council of wealthy families and a mayor, elected by them. However, even though it has a certain degree of autonomy, the town is still considered to be a part of the local duchy.
Defences
There is a force of eighty town guards, overseeing the order and protecting the city. Also, each merchant families can put their men to a sword, amassing as much as two hundred armed men in total.
Infrastructure
What Longport certainly lacks is housing and sanitation. Despite being the centre of the trade, it is not very big, and docks and warehouses occupy most of the space. The common citizenry is often poor here due to wealthy families taking most of the profits for themselves.
Assets
The town is filled with warehouses and goods. It also has a small fleet of ships for trade and war, and local merchants can provide even more vessels in times of need.
