Session 14: Shared Eggs-periences

General Summary

The Coast Guard surprised the remaining people in the Gutter Party cave (namely Spug, Kyrion, and an as yet anonymous dragonborn) by Entangling Kyrion and firebombing Spug. A somewhat ridiculous fight ensued involving a bunch of fire, a bear sitting on a half-Triton, and Emelia being unconscious for half of the duration. While asleep, she had a sneak preview of a continuation of the Gutpunch dream, where she saw a door.
During the fight, Kyrion tried to get them not to kill Spug, appearing desperate. He also appeared to be sick or strung out, struggling with exhaustion. He was captured along with the dragonborn man, and although Spug said "You cannot kill me in a way that matters", he did in fact appear to have been killed. The group tied up Kyrion and the dragonborn, relieving them of their possessions (namely a carved conch shell and a scroll case with several scrolls (Alter Self, Unseen Servant, and Web). Finding nothing else of value inside the cave, they left to bring their captives to holding cells (and to search for eggs).
On their way out, a earth-shaking collapse was heard deeper in the caverns.
Passing through the Public House at the City Guard complex, they surprisingly found Captain Sultana awake and in his office, looking like he hadn't slept in a long time. After a brief explanation, he told them where they could find Gherd and directed them as to where to put the prisoners.
Arriving at the Lodge just after closing, the group coerced asked Henrietta to make them some breakfast and spoke to Gherd, giving him Kyrion's possessions and showing the samples of Gutpunch and blue dust they collected. While Emelia initially tried to deny taking the Gutpunch, Leaf outed her the next day. Gherd questioned why no gold was found at the party, and requested they meet him in the caves the following morning to investigate the tunnel collapse.
Emelia took some eggs out to Eunice Mince, who had been scrounging in the trash for free food. Speaking to him, he was excited about their shared experience. She asked him about the door, and after some convincing, he told her that she'd have to see it for herself, but there is something beyond it. After gratefully consuming the eggs, he wandered off into the night.
SNTR-1 spent the night at Eidella's, giving her the blue dust and Gutpunch samples for further study and catching her up.
During the night, Leaf & Emelia experienced another shared dream: it began with a dream of Leaf's father, Eoin, teaching him how to care for the farm animals and gradually exhibiting features of both Sultana and Baron Iverfort. It ended with him saying: "Remember that it’s not your place to decide who lives and who dies." (Eoin) "Each creature has its place in this world." ("Sultana") "Besides, it’s best to garner favors whenever you can." ("Baron"). Then, in Emelia's dream, she stole a massive dragon's egg from Hestia Neverburn, who congratulated her on "passing the test" with a kiss. Then the scene went dark:
You hear the churning, thrumming, wet noises of the machine you saw when you took the Gutpunch. Your vision focuses and you blink slowly, attention drawn to a door. The door is as big as the machine. The door is as small as your fingernail. The distance between you and the door is so minute you could reach out and touch it. The door is a mirror, too, you realize. In many ways, it is an ordinary door, almost a nonexistent door. And yet, staring at it, a wave of fear passes over you. A fear so blinding it paralyzes you. You can feel the pressure of all that meat, all that flesh, all the metal inside the machine amassed behind that door. It is an unbearable weight at your throat. You are buried in it, in a small box, under an eternity of rock and earth. The worms are singing to you through the rubble. The worms know your name. You cannot think. Your head is full of blood. You dare not breathe.
There is something behind the door.
Leaf & Emelia both woke up saying the words: Ylmyo-Aldon.   That morning, Emelia moved into Kopala's room. They met up with Gherd, filled him in on what hadn't been discussed the night before, including the shared dream and some insight into what Spug was chanting about. They ultimately found the cave-in at the entrance to Ta'lan Rah, their primary source of moonmilk. SNTR-1 Molded Earth to clear the rubble.
Inside, a creature like Spug was cleanly bisected at the threshold, its bottom half nowhere to be found. A comatose man determined to be the missing Dominhall Amanita, covered in mushrooms and apparently comatose, lay in the center of the room. They doused him in moonmilk and began moving him to the Temple, but not before recognizing that this "version" of the cavern is the one from the first time they'd been there, complete with the spatters of paint Emelia had seen.

TLDR:

The Coast Guard kills Spug, gets eggs, and finds Dominhall Amanita unconscious in Ta'lan Rah after a collapse of the tunnel leading into it.
Level Up x2. Party is currently at Level 8.

  • Other names for Ylmyo-Aldon: Mother of Soil, Great Unmaker, The Rot that Calls, Matriarch of Decay
  • From Spug's Chant:
  • “We hear you call in [...] an earthen tremor that grants us speech”: Reminds you of Dominhall's writing: "Air as a medium – the earth is how they speak for now" (See Session 04
“To build the gates that will unite all realms” :The closest thing to a mission statement/purpose you remember
“O earth [...] they will bleed & die & rot & return for you, although you were never theirs”: Somewhat reminiscent of the more xenophobic Chelu-kaan who believe Lient'roc is not "for" the Continentals
