Farland
Farland is a village in Kantaras where the primary labor is centered around the production of Feromone Fairy Dust. It started out as a small outpost, with the purpose of capturing and breeding Feromone Fairies for their dust, but eventually grew into a prosperous village, which is evident from all the luxurious buildings.
Within a short time, Farland was expanded with breeding and harvesting facilities. This involved house-sized cages, Fairyariums, where fairies could live, breed, and have dust extracted from them. Additionally the Farlanders increased their fairy capturing efforts, and resorted to more aggressive measures, which led to The Dust War.
Feromone Fairies were a sentient race, and not willing participants in this whole endeavor. Being sentient made it easier to train them to be harvested efficiently, it also meant that they often resisted the breeding procedures, which led to several escape attempts. For that reason, the Fairyariums were made from mithrillium, which turned out to be resistant to the fairies' magic, rendering them powerless against their captors. The mithrillium Fairyariums were extremely valuable, which increased the demand for security, which in turn required more manpower. This quickly led to growth in the outpost, and soon several farms were established, as well as an inn, a general store, a blacksmith, and a jail.
It is believed that Farland was founded by a secret organization, and some of the inhabitants are likely part of that organization. Whether it's true or not, the authorities of Kantaras doesn't appear to be concerned about this.
After Farland had established efficient breeding procedures, there was no longer a need to capture the Feromone Fairies. Instead, they started to hunt them down, to keep their numbers low, to ensure that the fairies weren't able to mount any sort of resistance.
Farland is close to a river that streams down from the Mithrillium Peaks, a small mountain range to the south. Additionally, there's adequate farmland around the village, making them self-sustained, from a combination of farming, hunting, and fishing.
Feromone Fairy Dust is their primary resource. The farmers are paid handsomely for the dust, and since the Farlanders are fully self-sufficient, they mostly trade for gold or luxury resources, making Farland a very wealthy village.
