Fairyarium

The Fairyarium mostly referred to as a fairy cage or fairy Apiary, is a house-sized cage, for holding Feromone Fairies and is for extracting their Feromone Fairy Dust efficiently. The Fairyarium was invented solely for the purpose of farming Feromone Fairy, which is only done in and around the village of Farland in Kantaras.

History & Discovery

When farming the Feromone Fairies from the Feromone Forest in Kantaras initially started, they struggled with finding an efficient way of storing the fairies without them escaping, and at the same time being able to efficiently harvest the dust from their wings.
Initially, large gridiron cages were used, but since the fairies had minor magical abilities, they managed to escape the farms on several occasions, causing the fairy farmers to spend a lot of resources on cage maintenance and security.
This lead to the development of the Fairyarium, a cage, resistant to the fairies magic, and also constructed to accommodate harvesting the dust, and breeding the fairies.
Ironically, the Fairyarium is mostly made of mithrillium, a metal where Feromone Fairy Dust is used in the refining process.

Distribution

Due to the shady nature of fairy farming, it is not commonly known that the Feromone Fairies are held against their will. This means that the Fairyarium is not something many people outside the fairy farming community have heard of. In fact, everything related to fairy farming is under strict regulation by The Freeport Trade Confederation.
Whenever a farm needs a new Fairyarium they can commission one through The Freeport Trade Confederation. Since mithrillium is extremely expensive, the Fairyarium is in many cases either rented or borrowed through the The Freeport Trade Confederation depending on the individual situation of the farmer.

Design & Usage

Since Feromone Fairies aren't defiant by nature, the Fairyarium was designed with this in mind. For optimal production, some manual labor is required from the caged fairies, be it voluntarily or coerced.
Apart from the complexity of refining mithrillium, the primary material for building a Fairyarium, it is fairly simple in its construction.

Main cage

The main cage is usually around the same size as a human house, in order to accommodate as many fairies as possible. It is a large area, fenced off in all directions, even downwards, with gridiron made from mithrillium.
On one side there is a door, for humanoids to enter. The entire door, including hinges, lock, and the handle is also made from mithrillium but has been framed with lead to make it heavy, making it hard for the fairies to open it, in case it was left unlocked and unattended.
Suggestions from The Freeport Trade Confederation
The main cage is the main living area, were the faeries will spent most of their time. It is recommended to plant vegetation in the main cage area, as a source of food and materials for any habitats the fairies wish to create for themselves. Occasionally replacements may be a good idea.
The fairies like to fly, by their very nature, and should be encouraged to do so, as using their wings spreads the dust, and stimulates the production.

Breeding cages

Opposite the door, inside the main cage, there are several rows of small cages, made from gridiron, one of the few parts of the Fairyarium not made from mithrillium. These cages are where the fairies are supposed to breed.
The fairies tend to cover the walls with leaves and other materials, to give themselves some sense of privacy. The outer wall, being the mithrillium gridiron, is usually left exposed, so the farmers can oversee the breeding process, and it allows them to intervene when physical or behavioral problems occur.
Suggestions from The Freeport Trade Confederation
It is expected that the fairies largely handle the breeding process by themselves. Male breeders should be chosen based on the size of their wings, for optimal dust production. These are expected to impregnate any female mature enough to procreate, and not currently with child.
Females are expected and should be encouraged to enter the breeding cages, whenever they are capable of breeding. This part of the breeding process will likely require direct interaction from the farmer, as the fairies cannot be relied on to do this efficiently themselves.
Once a female has delivered offspring, she should be able to join the breeding efforts within two days, with only minor breaks for nurturing her offspring.

Collection Foil

Underneath the mithrillium gridiron, at the bottom of the cage, is a thin layer of mithrillium, which serves two purposes. To collect Feromone Fairy Dust, and to ensure nothing grows up from below and interrupts the process. The foil can be pulled out from under the main cage so that the dust can be collected.
Suggestions from The Freeport Trade Confederation
When the fairies fly around the main cage their dust falls down through the gridiron at the bottom and onto the collection foil.
For this to be most efficient, it is recommended that the fairies are encouraged to sweep dust from plants and other surfaces, into the collection foil.
To collect the dust, the foil can be pulled out from any side of the cage, where the dust can be safely collected. It is advisable to have some cover from the weather when extracting the foil, as the dust is easily blown away from the wind, greatly reducing the yield of a harvest.

Vegetation

Fairies require vegetation to survive, both as food but also as materials to build their own habitats. Even the cheapest of the fairy farmers place vegetation inside the main cage, as it reduces the feeding efforts, and keeps the fairies less depressed at a very low cost. Having miserable fairies will greatly reduce the dust yield.
Suggestions from The Freeport Trade Confederation
Although vegetation is not part of the Fairyarium, it is recommended to place potted plants around the main cage, and to chose plants that require little soil, to cover up as little of the collection foil as possible. Additionally, it is recommended to use plants with large petals, so the won't fall through the gridiron and onto the collection foil. Furthermore, fairies should be encouraged to keep vegetation away from the floor grid.
Alternate names
Fairyary, Fairy Apiary, Fairy Cage
Inventor(s)
The exact person who invented the Fairyarium is unknown, but The Freeport Trade Confederation has claimed credit for inventing it.
Access & Availability
The Fairyarium is strictly controlled by The Freeport Trade Confederation, and decides who gets to buy, rent, or borrow the fairyary.
Since the majority of the Fairyarium is made from mithrillium, which ironically requires feromone fairy dust to refine, the production is both expensive and slow, thus not many Fairyariums are made.
Complexity
The construction of the mithrillium frame, mithrillium gridiron, and especially the mithrillium foil, is the most complex part of creating the Fairyarium. Although it's around the size of a house, mithrillium is very lightweight, and makes the assembly quite easy, in relation to its size.
Discovery
The Fairyarium was designed out of a need for better security and efficiency when farming feromone fairy dust.
Manufacturing Just as the distribution, manufacturing is also strictly controlled by The Freeport Trade Confederation. It is not known where or who constructs the Fairyariums, but it's likely that dwarves from the Mithrillium Peaks are involved.
