Satyrs

The exact origins of why the Satyrs were created are unknown. However, with the distinct absence of the Cervidae Animalians Guardian, many Cervidae were taken into a new purpose; aiding heroes - playing the sidekick if you will. While unconfirmed as to the full process of how this came to be, it is rumoured that they entered the plane of Ribosia to do so, and in remaining there The Animalian Thread within them faded or were severed. Regardless, they remained on the plane over generations as they trained and drank, effectively becoming Ruccid creatures in the process.

Their aid was pivotal in The Core War however none were to be known as great heroes, they were known simply as hero's aid on mass. Still, for these flighty folk, this was more than enough of an honour and technically fulfilling their purpose.

Nowadays camps of Satyrs train in Ribosia's Mindwell to hopefully travel alongside a hero or perhaps aid a breakthrough scientist as an apprentice or something. ...Alright, mostly they revel and play tricks on one another in a constant game of rivalry in what they deem a competitive industry in some sort of almost... sad cycle that speaks to the absence of their Guardian and a lack of closure over what became of them.

Satyrs are known for their eccentricities. Some people spend too much time worrying over why Satyrs behave as they do. But Satyrs themselves simply are as they are, feeling no need to understand what drives them, much less explain it to others.

Animalians: Complete indifference to them despite their once-linked history. Animalians cannot deny their ability to pull through when needed but otherwise turn a nose up at their behaviour. Especially the remaining Cervidae families who appear embarrassed by them

Humans: Humans are fun to mess with on one hand, but on the other, the Satyrs are the most kindred in spirit with them of all the beast folk. After all, they were the ones they served alongside once upon a time but not out of some noble servitude, it was and still is very much of a sibling-like nature - I would die for you but don't you dare touch my stuff, also here's a pie to the face.

Appearance

  • Satyrs are a simple half-and-half mix of a human and a goat or deer, with the line being right in the middle at the waist.
  • From the waist down they have shaggy-furred haunches ending in hooved legs and a short tail.
  • From the waist up they are entirely human, except for the occasional additional feature such as horns/antlers, squared pupils and/or floppy ears.

Height & Weight: Satyrs match humans in height and weight

Features

Ruccid Nature
Satyrs are Ruccid creatures, the full extent of what this means, well...

Steep Steppers
Originating from the embodiment of balance and agility, the Cervidae Animalians, Satyrs have these features pushed magically to extremes. A Satyr is able to scale a straight cliff side with but a centimeter as a foothold thanks to their hooves. They are natural rock clamberers and enjoy it all the while.

They are also nimble and jump fairly well without the need of a run-up. And if all else fails, a good kick of their hooves makes for a decent attack or distraction.

Iron Stomachs
Tough teeth and strong stomach acid allow a Satyr to chew and digest non-magical materials as tough as metal.
Although many joke this evolved from endless parties and mistakenly biting into goblets while drinking.

Naming Traditions

Family names

They care little for family titles and more titles of story or legend, often tying them personally to a hero's tale they've aided in... where applicable.

Other names

Satyr names tend to stem from words even vaguely related to venturing or grandeur, then usually a few vowels are dropped or changed.
Examples: Meriel (Mural), Orient (Oriental), Shald (Shield) or Roisk (Risk)

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Due to their migration and integration into Ribosia, Satyrs natively speak and understand Ruccid but go out of their way to learn Penn in order to communicate with those on the mortal plane.
