Red Rum

A non-biological fluid of uncertain origin but capable of being drunk by some Aaragon citizens as a liquor.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Self Perpetuating

Red rum is a substance that has the unique ability to sustain its own existence without external intervention. It can appear as a living liquid to others; as it can crawl along any surface in any direction. The rum's mass bulges and convulses, like breathing, as it grows bigger and bigger.

Manufacturing process

Carbonation

No one knows from where the first drop of red appeared. But from that drop did an industry rise.
Despite its nature, red rum breaks down easily when exposed to an environment below a pH of 6; losing its inherent properties but remaining the same viscous liquid. As such, distilleries merely need to add controlled portions of carbon dioxide to their source supply of pure rum as it is being dripped out.

Significance

Alcoholic

In small quantities, red rum is often enjoyed as a standalone drink over ice or mixed with other ingredients to create a fruity or spicey cocktails.   Its vibrant red hue and aged sweetness makes it an appealing choice.

Liquid Portal

In great quantities, red rum will repeatedly 'flow' over itself in increasingly denser layers until a membranous portal manifests.   Getting to it requires swimming through the upper layera and then dealing 50 points of damage in one round to break through the bottom most layer. Elsewise, it would regenerate immediately.   Alarmingly, it is just as common for something to emerge from the other end as something is to enter. Most of such entities are unintelligent and often seem to be just as lost and bewildered by their new environment as the environment is to them.
