Born to scholarly parents, they earned their name from singing songs frequently while doing anything. Their sing-song-y nature, whether happy or sad, brought joy to those who could hear them. In time, they learned how to incorporate magic into their music.
As they got older, Songs took to using their magic to help people. They would go to medical stations to help heal the sick and injured. They would go to funerals to provide comfort to the grieving. They studied ways to soothe the enraged for times when barbarians attacked. All of this happened at the perfect time to prepare them for meeting an unexpected foe.
They were part of a group of travelers from their home plane who wished to seek out new stories through the portal that had opened. As they came over, they found a world in strife. They managed to settle down on a coast, believed to be on northern
Obor, and started building their new home. It wasn't long before
Megalofidi - The Great Serpent began to terrorize them.
The Great Serpent caused a great deal of damage, leveling cities and devouring fleets. Songs was living in a burgeoning city that was frequently thrashed by The Great Serpent.
A ship set sail with over one hundred volunteers to fight back: Songs was one such volunteer. While they were the lone survivor to return, the story goes that those on shore could hear the echoes of the far off songs they sang to soothe it to the point of great slumber. The battle lasted 2 whole days, and Songs returned, washed up on shore, clinging to driftwood, half dead. They also looked quite different now, having skin and hair that glowed.
In an effort to keep the beast in its perpetual slumber, Songs and many other genasi set out to build a new city on the sleeping serpent. In time, they and the city they founded began to glow..
Several years later, at a festival celebrating the defeat of The Great Serpent and the founding of the City of Lights, Songs gave an epic performance, reenacting the battle - abridged, of course - and paying homage to all who died since it first arrived. There is debate as to whether the exhaustion from such an epic performance or a poisoned drink did them in.
Nice read. Quite an interesting story that they actually put that large beast to sleep by singing rather than through violence. Some of your subdivision are rather short. Perhaps it would be better to bundle everything in your own categories instead of using the standard ones? :)
I have thought of that, but haven't yet taken the time to dive into the tools as much yet. I keep getting caught in the winds of creativity and trying to create or complete articles as the ideas come to me. With more and more being fleshed out I think I will start combining and making my own. The templates are great, but don't fit every need. Hardest thing is finding the time to fine tune it. And reading some of your articles has given me some inspiration. And thank you! I criticism and praise are helpful in equal measure.
Yeah indeed it takes some time to get those things right. But the good part is once you find your own template for each type of article you can stick with that :) Getting the stuff you want down is however the first and most important step the rest is just finetuning :)
