History

The Gracefolk who fought in the war divided their efforts during reconstruction. They began setting out to assist people while looking for a place to call home. A small group of explorers set out to travel to parts unknown to those they aided. When they discovered the lush jungle of Urwald they decided it would be the perfect place to call home. Deep in the jungle they constructed a city. It incorporated the flora of the jungle, using trees and vines as supports and decoration. An elegant display hidden away where few tread.   While their connection to the faerie plane diminished over time, they had a profound effect on the jungle itself. Their fae ancestry, coupled with magic flowing in from the east, led to the jungle blossoming into a magical land teeming with new, magical life. The jungle became known as the Wyldlands. Many wayward fae creatures made this their home. Ilengal itself became home to different kinds of elves as well. The almost golden skin of the Vernal Gracefolk who transformed the landscape became became a symbol of abundance and honor - giving the Gracefolk great esteem and status.   Though no sovereignty has dominion over the wyldlands, many Ilengalese consider themselves higher than, or at least dominant over, the other peoples of the wyldlands. This also has given way to a somewhat pompous attitude amongst them. This has not lead to a supremacist ideology, but it does make interactions with them often insulting or insufferable. Some Ilengalese have attempted to change this perception in recent years and are trying to temper the gracefolk culture to be more like the supportive and uplifting nature of their predecessors. A movement to remind people of the benevolence of their faerie creators is slowly gaining popularity.   The Army of the Wylds is made up of peoples from the various cultures in the Wyldlands. Ilengalese rarely join the ranks, but it is not unheard of. Frequently they attempt to enter as officers. When it comes to their involvement in Wyldlands affairs they tend to participate in the Wyld Embassy. Their delegation tends to be the most active in disputes and management, giving them a status as de facto leaders. Their delegation is also one of two that send embassadors out into the world to gather information, create relationships with other nations, and create treaties. While technically neutral in all conflicts outside of the Wyldlands, Ilengal has offered personnel and material support to many nations over time. Ilengalese spies and diplomats have had important roles in many conflicts, and their support as tacticians, leaders, and consultants are often favored.
