The Federation

"For too long have we lacked structure, lacked discipline, lacked control. Gone are the days of chaos and disorder. We shall struggle no more. Like the Wall of our great city, we shall thrive in adversity and retake our home. We came together to save this city, to save this nation, and to bring dignity back to Iya."
— Federation Premier in 900 PC at the founding ceremony of the Federation

The nation of Iya was in shambles after The Planar Convergence. For centuries crime and chaos were the rulers of this once prosperpous nation. It was in this chaos that a handful of disparate groups came together and founded the Federation. Together they vowed to bring stability and order to Iya by exploring the parts of Iya lost to planar incursion, expanding their influence across Iya, exploiting the new landscape and its resources, and exterminating anything stands in the way of progress.

Structure

The Federation is ran by a premier and their board of directors each representing one of the original founders and their areas of expertise. The premier is chosen by the board to be the voice of the Federation and to have final approval of any laws and regulations that the board comes up with. The board is made up of seven members and they have sole control of their departments save for the premier.

Board Roles & Responsibilities

  • Premier: Voice of the Federation; total control and final say in all things Federation related
  • Archivist: Historian of the Federation; curation of Iyan & Federation history and lore
  • Machinist: Federation Miratech Specialist; restoring Miratech relics and finding new uses for Miratech
  • Rancher: Federation Farmer; producing crops and raise livestock for Iya
  • Marshal: Federation Law Enforcer; judge, jury, and executioner of the law
  • Bursar: Federation Funds Manager; allocation and acquisition of capital for the Federation and its endeavors
  • Informer: Intelligence Officer of the Federation; scouting and analyzing information about Iya and the Federation for use by the Federation
  • Hand: Federation Manager; managing and maintaining Federation employees

Culture

The Federation operates like a megacorporation and as such its members and the surrounded populace are subject to the whim and wills of the Premier and the board. The board believes they are doing what must be done for the nation to prosper, the Premier believes they must be the one to do it, and the common populace, even those that work under the Federation, don't believe any of it. The balance of power in Iya is heavily tipped toward the Federation and that power is wielded like the sharpest blade, the wittiest mind, and the slyest tongue.

Public Agenda

The Federation's purpose is fairly simple to state; save Iya. However going about this goal is complex and not as gracious as it may seem. The Federation wants to clear the incursions from the rest of the city and create a utopia, where they control everything. In order to do this they form expeditions into various city sectors, they search for Miratech in an effort to amass power, they regulate every industry they can and clamp down on crime and those that oppose them. They control food supplies, information dissemination, education and living situations. Not everything is as it seems on the surface for the Federation.

Assets

The Federation is the wealthiest organization in all of Iya. Although there is no global economy to engage in trade with they have more gold than the wealthiest Iyans combined. They have a massive amount of mundane weaponry and armor that they use to equip their law enforcement and expeditions.

The most valuable assets that the Federation have are knowledge and Miratech. The Federation has the largest reserve of information that has been recovered from the lost sectors of Iya, this includes historical and arcane and divine knowledge. The Federation also has the Miratech vault where technology from the Age of Miracles found during exploration are amassed.

History

The Founding of the Federation

In the year 900 PC, 5 individuals; two crime bosses, one from an infamous family and the other from the slums of Iya, alongside a hero, a historian and a farmer came together to found the Federation, a organization that they believed would steer Iya into a brighter future and make them the most powerful people in the nation. Discussions and negotiations of how this Federation would work, how each of them would play their role and the short and long term goals of the organization were held months before, shortly after the discovery of a mysterious Miratech artifact.

The reception of this newly formed organization was met with mixed reviews. It seemed like such a unlikely bunch to come together and many were hesitant. However the Federation had the resources and the time to clamp down on any opposition. It took just about a decade for the Federation to take majority control of Iya.

Conduit Registration Initiative

During the decade that it took the Federation to truly make a foothold in Iya, they had been working on a major discovery. The Miratech artifact found before the founding was in their possession and given its uncommon nature they wanted to figure out what it was. By this time they had hired some Miratech specialist, but none of the specialist had ever worked with anything similar to this artifact. One thing was certain though, a specific Conduit was needed. Some of the members of the Federation were Conduits but none of them were able to bring a spark to the artifact. Thus the Federation started a program, the Conduit Registration Initiative (CRI), where all Conduits in Iya had to register and be tested. It took a while given CRI's rejection by most of the populace but the Federation nonetheless succeeded in this goal. In 911 PC, a 10 year old's Divine Spark awoke and because his family was in need of money, they took him to register in hopes of receiving some form of stipend. When the kid sparked the artifact, the Federation immediately offered the family enough money to last them a lifetime to adopt the kid. The family accepted the offer.

Translocation Expansion

The newly adopted kid by the Federation was raised and educated by the Federation and taught to channel their spark to a degree most Conduits can only dream of. He was labeled as a Porter as the artifact he could activate was found to be a Translocation Pole (TP), which paved the way for a form of teleportation. The Federation used this new ability to jump start their expansion and exploration goals. Many sectors of Iya had been lost due to the planar incursions and now with the TP they were able to get to those sectors quicker and with less resources and manpower than before.

It seems their version of "utopia" is one where everyone obeys them...
